Do I need updates for the goggles?

Really, I'm flying fine now on the firmware otb with the mp and the controller It's asking now, of course, for updates but I've elected not to as I'm not having issues. and scared to update. If I bought the goggles today at best buy would they work otb without updating the drone or controller???
Lets see, my firmware is something like the 3.1000
Does that sound right? And the controller is in the current software version so I guess that wouldn't matter...
