No, it doesn't. It would rely on the mobile's GPS if you asked it to reset home point to remote's location.

The drone, if that is what you mean by quad, has a GPS on board which is used as part of the flight control control system. It sends it’s position back to the controller which in turn passes it to the connected tablet or phone. If the tablet also has aGPS, it knows where it is and can take the downloaded drone position and plot the relationship between the tablet and the current position of the drone. The controller only acts as a data downloader for the drone.

If the phone/tablet doesn't have GPS, the app just uses the recorded homepoint so you still have accurate distance and direction information.
