Does the Mavic Pro battery charger work with the MA2 batteries too?

Seems unlikely DJI would go to the trouble to create an entirely different connector--does anyone know if the battery connector is the same?

Lol, DJI makes a different battery and charger for every drone they make. I have a room full of them.

And I suspect they always will. This allows them to sell increase sales on new batteries and chargers as well as sell the specs for these to aftermarket MFRs. Not trying to maintain compatibility also means lest testing on their part and less support issues.
