Drone endanger a flying paraglider and ran away

In the comments to kanagawa227's YouTube video, he reports he received communication from an anonymous source threatening to get his attorney involved if kanagawa227 doesn't take down the video.

🤣

Fat chance. Guys who run from possible trouble as fast as this guy did don't even have an attorney to contact.

If you click on that guy kawanga's avatar and get his YT channel you will see that he has posted the video himself on his own channel

an anonymous source threatening to get his attorney involved if kanagawa227 doesn't take down the video.
Then he should comment back to this anonymous source that the attorneys EACH paraglider that was there that day hires would like to speak to the pilot in this video for endangering the lives of their clients and Before pursuing FEDERAL charges, They would like to hear the pilot's side of the story.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. Everyone realizes that kanagawa227 here is the same person as kanagawa227 on YouTube. And that he owns the YouTube channel "Wind Hunter". You are explaining something that is obvious.

kanagawa227 posted the text of an anonymous message he received, threatening him with legal trouble if he doesn't take down the video.

So, I am confused about what you are trying to say.

Please allow me to report a Midair Collision.

Time: Jan.7th 12:52pm
Place: Torrey Pine North face between the 2 flags.
Drone operator: Unknown (Photo provided as link below)
Paraglider pilot: Hunter M. Odaka
Damage: lines of the glider were cut and damaged.

While I was flying a paraglider at the time and location described above, I suddenly heard a strange noise like something was striking my canopy and I found there was a drone hanging down my glider and cutting the line. I immediately landed and a guy came approaching me admitting he was the operator of the drone, pretending to provide his name and phone however he just retrieved the drone and ran away.

My sincere apologies for the idiot that caused this. to the rest of the community, If the rest of us do not "police" our own community then don't complain when we lose our rights to fly as "free", we do now. We need to weed out the a**holes now before their drones cause more damage. Be prepared the "Karens" will be out in force from now on

The OP's YouTube video has been taken down by YouTube "due to a privacy claim by a third party".

This is the story that aired on Tuesday, January 14, on CBS Channel 8 here in San Diego. Unfortunately, as mentioned, they obscured the coward's face.

Looks some some videos are not obscured. Hoping the RP will see this- he should know that photography in public places is allowed as they were in a public area with no exceptions for privacy, so the paraglider’s rights to photograph and film there are federally protected. Also, as this was in a public area, the audio recording is also legal.

^ this link no longer works as someone asked YouTube to close it due to “privacy concerns” even though it was perfectly legal to videotape him there in public. He has been found anyway.

Perfectly legal to audio and video record the incident and the people in and around the incident. But posting it on YouTube is going to be up to Google to decide since YT is private property. Their platform, their rules.

You are right, California has a rule about two-party audio recording- both have to agree to it but it’s OK if it’s in a public area. Besides that, the guy didn’t object and it would have been obvious that he was being recorded. It’s the same thing you have to do on a phone conversation in California. Some other states have just a single party rule. As for video and pics, it all allowed in public places across the entire US.

“You will hear from my lawyer!” Hah, that guy should be looking for one for what he did. Not yielding to a manned aircraft, in addition to probably not reporting damaging another aircraft with his drone will lend him in trouble. Just the amount of damage he caused to the paraglider may also require a report to the NTSB-

@kanagawa227 really glad you are safe, that must’ve been very upsetting. I understand that you sent a report to FAA but have you also sent one to the NTSB? I know if it was just a few cut lines, but I imagine the repair would be very expensive to get it certified as airworthy again. I hope the guy gets caught and pays for what he did.

I updated my post, you’re right, in California audio recordings without the subjects’ permission are legal if it’s done in a public area. The two-party law only pertains to if it’s in a location with an expectation of privacy. The guy was just trying to scare OP into taking it down and then probably went to YouTube to try to hide his face.

The guy who’s name appears in the videos comments (I won’t post it here as he’s just alleged to be the RP) also posted on his commercial photography website (which has been taken down) that he’s a part 107 pilot. I hope it’s not true because someone who really did get a part 107 certification would know exactly what to report and what the resulting fines could be for not self-reporting the accident.

A post in the RC Group claims the alleged drone pilot is Nevin Day:

A Google search reveals a business website, LinkedIn profile, and multiple social media accounts for a videographer, photographer, and Part 107 drone pilot by that name, based in San Diego. The sites/accounts have all been taken down or made private but Google has cached some of the info. The TikTok profile still has a profile photo and, to my eyes, it does look like the same guy, but with a longer beard.
