Drone endanger a flying paraglider and ran away

I see absolutely nothing wrong with posting names if it’s all public information.
Well, as we don’t know for sure who it was, and public ‘misinformation’ can be really bad, and the community rules here say: “3. Do not post libelous remarks or misleading information”, one needs to be careful about it. It would’ve been OK to just post a link to the conversation where the name could be found. I purposely left the name out of my posts here though for that reason. Posting the video and even photos from the video is different as they were all taken while in a public area where no privacy expectations or concerns existed.

The Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) has archived some of the content from Nevin Day's website, including this bio and photo:

The guy in that photo sure does look very much like the guy in kanagawa227's GoPro video!

I figured it would turn out to be some hobbyist drone pilot that ran away. I am stunned that it is, allegedly, a Part 107 pilot. Shocking!

Simply amazing what a few clicks on a keyboard can do these days.
My wonder is does he know a good attorney and does he have a thick wallet.
The saving grace is he didn’t kill anyone. License or not, be safe guys!

Or at least insurance.

I can understand the possibility of a runaway, provided his log proves he was at a safe distance to begin with. That is doubtful though given he was ran over to the paraglider.

Yeah, it’s not that hard at all to find out who and even where a person lives these days, especially if they have anything posted about themselves online. It’s unfortunate that the guy panicked and ran away from the paraglider pilot, leaving it up to him to find out who he was. It just made everything much worse for the drone pilot instead of him doing the right thing by taking responsibility for the accident. He could be fined and probably will even lose his 107 cert over this, at least for not self-reporting it. Also, as the cost of repairing the lines and cuts in the paraglider fabric could exceed $500, the drone operator would also have been required to report the accident within 10 days to the FAA.
