Expensive photo

I can see their point, the last thing you want is someone parking in an area where you could be run over, only use in case of an emergency and with the castle in the background surly there were warning signs posted, if not there should be.

what don't you understand, pretty straight forward story
They probably write 500+ tickets a year for stopping in the breakdown lane without it being an emergency. Do they confiscate the binoculars and place it on their hood of the patrol car and tweet about ticketing a birdwatcher $120 for stopping along the highway because he thought he saw a blue rock thrush? Just tell him to move along if there hasn't been an accident. Must be a slow day on the "crime" blotter. Another drone crime.

Pure speculation but i will play along i have spent more hours than i care to remember on our motorway system which is an absolute nightmare and not fit for purpose we only have 3 lanes and the hard shoulder (emergency lane) therefore its a very busy and dangerous place, i can honestly say in all the time i have been using the motorways i have never seen anyone out of their car doing anything other than waiting for the emergency services no cameras binoculars etc, this idiot deserved everything he got there is no excuse or defence of his actions here!

Not trying to excuse the activity but it's not a drone crime, it's a traffic violation. Could have done without all the references to the drone, Officer.

... I think it's down to the fact that this half-wit stopped on the hard shoulder specifically to use the drone. As mentioned about UK motorways: they really are deathtraps - especially now a lot of them have been converted into "smart motorways" (100% oxymoron) which means other idiots get to use the emergency lane as another 70 mph carriageway.

Its just a post on a police FB page its not titled "anti drone police catch another pilot at it" it would have been the same post had it been a guy bird watching.

Maybe its becoming more commonplace, pure speculation on my behalf of course!.

Its just a bad idea to park on a roadway for any other reason besides an Emergency. Here and in many places there are signs telling you this. The person was risking their lives and the lives of others to get a picture....Not Cool.

He/she didn't have to give a ticket, a warning and "move along" would have be sufficient.
Cop being a jerk no doubt.

The idiot knew what he was doing was illegal and deserved the punishment he received, i imagine the officer is sick of seeing mangled bodies in car smashes on the hard shoulder which are common here, its an emergency lane not a car park.

How many accidents on hard shoulder?
Be aware of the dangers – as many as 12% of all fatal accidents on British motorways happen on the hard shoulder.

I am not a fan of cops, by any means....but it does seem that they can't win...if he does his job he is "being a jerk, no doubt"...if he does not issue the ticket........he's not doing his job ....this was a social media post....not a PD press release or official statement

Where I come from deputies would warn and advise quite often, but then people would call up and complain that they were being harassed, and if what they were doing was so bad why weren’t they cited. So the rules changed, if you wanted to W/A someone you had to write a lengthy narrative explaining why you decided to W/A rather than cite. Along with the change in rules came a change in attitude. Why write a narrative explaining what was happening, and possibly getting a complaint, when you could simply write the cite? See what you think is a “jerk” is just a cop trying to do his job, and at the same time trying to possibly save someone’s life.

There is another saying that floated around the locker room: “I didn’t want to cite him, but he talked me into it”. I’ll let you figure out what that means, but in this case since neither you or I was there, maybe it was the other guy who was the jerk and talked himself into the ticket.

Totally different situation, but Twice I've been pulled over for speeding and the 1st time was on the way to work doing 35 in a 25 mph zone. The officer was very nice and she just issued a warning. That stuck with me more than the ticket would have.
Happened again recently after about 6 yrs while visiting another city and coming into town I was 8 mph over the 35 speed limit going downhill. He also let me off with a warning. It can make a difference with a second chance. I just needed to be reminded of that fact. I think I've used my 2 out of three chances though, lol.
