npYa , I was there too and I do listen to others , thus being here . Thanks Buddy
Maybe that law is not a bad idea - people could then count on checking with the police periodically to try and recover lost items, but that law doesn't exist everywhere. Even if it did, in my experience with places that have a lost and found, people leave things and NEVER bother to check lost and found for whatever reason and then the folks keeping the lost and found have to deal with getting rid of the items. For places that DO have the law you have, how often do you think high value items might go missing in police custody??? I wouldn't trust them to get the mavic back to the original owner. As it is, it is the original owner's fault for being so short sighted. Live and learn. Is not there a crime of "Theft by found" Here you MUST hand things into police if you find them. To just keep, let alone sell is a crime.
Ya, it is. But I can see people easily not thinking of that, or intending to and then forgetting before their first flight. But I wouldn't advise people with no RC aircraft experience to just go out and buy something that costs over $200 and just start trying to learn on their own. But people do all of the time and many end up regretting that decision. No matter if registration is required or not, it is ALWAYS a good idea attaching a label with address and phone number to your drones!
In this case maybe the finder of the Mavic would have felt responsible to give it back to its owner instead of selling via eBay.
Good to know. I started off hearing that it was needed , then looked around the Internet (where else) and I found places that were saying $50 and $20 etc. Then I found the legit site saying $5 and then a highly subscribed you tuber saying that it was no longer required . Now I'm hearing you say it is required. So now I've gotten about 10 different opinions and I'm now more confused thank ever. Most of them sound just as legit as you do.
How,am I to KNOW with 100% certainty that I am getting the correct up to date info on the actual requirements.
That's true but when I went to their site it was so confusing to find or to know with certainty that you have found the right page (not category) the page where you click to buy. It was not 100%straight forward . So I backed off. Do you happen to know a direct link to the page, not to the website ,I can find that. That’s the trouble with internet, there are thousands of armchair experts. Just try googling anything medical, and you’ll get answers ranging from tennis elbow to stage 4 cancer.
Best bet is to contact those that make/implement the rules, The FAA.

Ya , if such a person knew that it was a "found" drone prior to purchasing it. What do you say about that scenario, I'd be so interested to know. Should the buyer put it in the trash.?Gentlemen, forgive him. A person that buys a "found" drone at a bargain price isn't likely all that interested in researching rules and regulations.

Why would you post an assumptive view on a topic without asking questions to confirm what you are assuming. It blows my mind that there are adults out there who do this. It's pretty scary to be honest considering that these adults are called to be jurors in our judicial system. That's a whole other story. No actually they did .
What are you even talking about? Stop stirring up trouble.Gentlemen, forgive him. A person that buys a "found" drone at a bargain price isn't likely all that interested in researching rules and regulations.

Thanks for the input and just to reiterate that the word "found" was never in the sellers description. This was learned by the buyer after the purchase was received.
Okay , so how to flag instigators ?
Is this site for trolls or for Drone flyers. Maybe I found the wrong site altogether.
