I have a stupid question for those using Final Cut Pro. If I buy it for my iMac do I have to buy it again for my MacBook?

You will only have to buy it once if you're using the same Apple account on both devices.

Yup, buy any app store app once, run it on every machine attached to the same Apple ID account.
