Due to a number of circumstances, I haven't flown my Mavic Pro in 6 months. Since I was a newbie to begin with, it will be like starting all over again. Any suggestions as to things to look out for as far as firmware / software updates before my first launch?

Version 01.04.0500 firmware for Mavic Pro and controller was released in September 2018, so you'll probably want to get that update loaded before you hit the road ...
Latest DJI Go 4 app's are 4.3.4 (Android) and 4.3.5 (IOS).

Pretty sure it'll be like riding a bike and come back to you almost immediately, but I'd still take it slow at first anyway and do a couple of simple test flights before trying to do anything complex.

It's a lot further for a drone to fall than the 1m or so off a bike... :)

If you do update give yourself time to undo it.

Check batteries. There's been cases where batteries fail if unused for long periods of time. It is recommended to cycle battery charge every 3 months.
