I am flying the Drone ( Air 3 ) from a 6 metre boat in a number of locations !
Any advice ie Obstacle avoidance off, Return to home to hover ?
Return altitude low ( Maybe 50 feet )
Question ? Can you set the home point update to a button ?
Any other advise ?

You might consider getting a Rescue Jacket for the Air 3 to make flying from a boat less stressful.

@Pacefast unless you are really experienced in flying your drone from a boat ,whether at anchor ,or a moving boat,
my main advice would be,before such an undertaking, then practice, using the different settings you mentioned,
untill, you have become fully confident, in how the drone reacts to those settings on dry land away from any forms of water

I have tested all those points Would be useful to update RTH point with the press of a button rather than diving into menus

Can you set the home point update to a button ?
Would be nice, but this is not an option. I can think of a few things I would like to see a shortcut to as well.

The main issue is that you will have to hand launch and hand catch the drone.
Doing this at sea is much more difficult anyone who hasn't flown from a boat, can imagine.
The drone will attempt to hold position as you launch or catch.
Unless the boat is perfectly still, this will feel like the drone is aggressively fighting against you and that can be scary.

You may need several attempts to bring the drone in and being low on battery increases anxiety.
You must bring the drone in with a healthy battery level safety margin.

Any advice ie Obstacle avoidance off,
Are you expecting to fly around obstacles to need OA?
Return to home to hover ?
Common misunderstanding ... you cannot set RTH to anything other than RTH
You are thinking of the Loss of Signal action.

Are you going to be flying far from the boat or staying close?
Are you likely to lose signal?

Return altitude low ( Maybe 50 feet )
Out on the water don't use RTH. Fly the drone yourself.
Question ? Can you set the home point update to a button ?
If your boat is travelling some distance while you fly, you will need to reset the home point (manually) a number of times during the flight to ensure the homepoint is not too far away from the boat.
If you don't, the drone will at some point advise you that the battery level is approaching the time when it must return to home and it will want to fly back to where the boat was when you launched.

I launch from my boat all the time. My rules are:
1. Light & variable wind
2. Boat stopped
3. Obstacle avoidance off
5. Wear leather glove

Lots of options - Send a video of your trip! Sounds like fun.

I fly a Mavic 2 Zoom (& Spark) over water from a small houseboat and kayak (Shanty Sanctuary., See the following link for more detail:

).

Both drones are equipped with floats (in case of unintended water landing). I also use a recovery handle to facilitate catching in flight.

I back up the drone to the boat so stick adjustments are more intuitive when recovering the drone. I won't fly from the boat unless it is relatively calm with light winds and seas.

Practice how you will use the drone (tracking, etc.) and make hand recoveries over land first.

Updating your home point is important unless you remain stationary or you drone will go back to where it took off. However, I always bring the drone back with plenty of battery (I shoot for 30%).

I hope this helps. TS

Any advice ie Obstacle avoidance off,
OA most definiately off when approaching the boat and coming into land.

Return to home to hover ?
Return altitude low ( Maybe 50 feet )

As far as I know you can not set RTH to "hover".
You can. however, set the failsafe/disconnection-action option to "hover" but I wouldn't recommend that.
Why? Battery state depending it can end up in a low battery RTH i.e. if you are too slow getting to within control range the drone could already be on its way to a different place i.e. the last set home point.

RTH height, ..... higher than anything on the boat and or other boats in the area by no less than 10m.

"Question ? Can..." No, would be nice but you can do it manually in the app quite easily,
I'd reset it to the controller's position each time but the system will need to know where the controller is, so location services need to be on on the screen device, be that a phone or a controller.

Any other advice, first practise hand catching on dry land whilst stood stil. Once you are confident with that practise hand catching whilst walking .... probably with the drone to the side of you or whilst walking backwards.
You might also have to practise the "grab and twist/flip/roll" method of motor stopping.
It might also be an idea to practise hand launching whilst walking backwards etc..

I am not sure which would be the better method of starting the drone's motors and launching, CSC and throttle up vs use the launch button.
With the CSC approach I think the drone will fight 'you' as soon as it senses movement and that movement can be in 3D.
But either way, once the drone is airborne it will try to hold postion and that most likely means you and the boat will move away from it * or at least you should be prepared for that to happen, hence the "launch from the stern of a forwards moving boat" mentioned below.

* raises an interesting point, will VPS's 'lock' be sufficient to keep the drone over the boat ?🤔

Assuming the boat is moving forwards, launch and hand catch from the stern.

PS have a look at posts #8 ( byJJB* ) and #19 ( by DJI Natalia ) in
JJB*'s post should be reliable.

With the Air 3 you might be able to switch landing protection off .... which would be a big plus for a boat landing
