I snipped(from a MOV video) this shot of a sailboat heading into the Patapsco River from my home near Long Shallow Creek. I'm not a videographer or photographer nor do I have post processing skills. I did like the way these frames turned out. In particular, the contrast between the setting sun and the shadows cast by the boat's rigging made me happy. Any thoughts?

**** Dr. Bill - that is a superb shot. I'm with you, the contrast of the shadows vs. the reflection of the setting sun really make the shot. That's some nice work....

The only thing I would do is crop the top of the frame to remove the land.

Great idea. I imagine post processing is in my future. Any suggestions for the required software??

Beauty any ND filters?
As I said in the original post. I'm not a photographer. After losing my Recreational Pilot's license(medical problems) I took up flying a baby bird. That said, how bout suggestions on the type of filters to purchase and when to use them...it would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly if you're taking stills (or still frames from a video) you dont need or want an ND filter. An NDs purpose is to blur movement which is the last thing you want in a video.
As for the image itself, firstly there's a really distracting element top left so i'd crop in a bit to remove it.
Secondly, the highlights are massively burnt out. Its hard with shots like that and taking a still from a video rather than using the photo mode is going to make the problem significantly worse due to the lower dynamic range, the compression used in video and the substantially lower resolution of a video vs stills.

So one tip would be, if you want a still image, take a still image. It'll be significantly better and easier to post process than a video frame.

Lots of choices. Here are two free options with different levels of experience/features:

FastStone Viewer Beginner to moderate user easy to use and has a good pdf tutorial.

Topaz Studio v.1 Moderate to advanced user. You can still get version 1 for free. It's in the Legacy section of the download directory. Tons of YouTube video tutorials.

I bought and use my ND filters so that I can go down a couple of stops (more open aperture) for a more cinematic look. It hasn't blurred anything. I have experience beautiful videos using these filters. I know that when you open a still camera's aperture, it will give you a nice bokeh (blurred background) while focusing on a close subject, but with the Hasselblad camera on the M2P, I haven't experience that. So far.

Thanks for the links! Can't wait to see if I can learn to post process.

I've done as you suggested(crop the land out of the shot) and posted it on my FaceBook page. Received likes and loves from friends and others. Thanks to your suggestion the picture has been shared 4 times!!
