Today after starting the motors I got this warning on my screen, see below.
I found it real funny to be warned about taking of without battery and almost ignored it.
Thought it was just another BS warning like we get so many.

I gave it a second thought and walked towards the drone. I pushed down the battery and heard a tiny 'click'.
I was impressed - yes: The battery was not fully in.

Back home I inserted a battery the same - wrong - way and got that warning again.
See that tiny gap at the back of the battery on 2nd image.
But I was able to take off!

That keeps me wondering:
If the system is so sensitive to detect a non-proper battery sitting - why would it let me take off?

I won't lie, but this is part of my pre-flight routine now. I triple check that the battery is fully and completely inserted. I've noticed an even smaller gap than your photo shows sometimes when I've "thought" that the battery "clicked" in properly. The whole mechanism seems a little fidgety to me...much more so than the MP1

The battery has little switches under the clips and if they haven't popped back out like they do when they "click" in the switches stay depressed and you get that warning.

If the system is so sensitive to detect a non-proper battery sitting - why would it let me take off?
Probably becasue people would get mad if the detection did a false positive one day and didn't allow a takeoff.

It's standard in aviation to inform the pilot of a potential issue and let him be responsible of verifying the information, assessing the situation and taking the proper decision instead of forcing something on him that may be wrong.

As Kilrah said. If the switch was faulty, and not detecting the clips, preventing from taking off means the owner would have to send it back under warranty. Easier for owner to check and continue to fly if they've made the effort to read the warning message and check the battery is secure. And if the owner just ignore and continue to fly, and the battery pops off, at least the warning might be in the flight logs for DJI to say it's pilot error.
