In order to prevent damage to the props or rotors, or aircraft, should I remove the 4 propellers and/or the battery when transporting the M2P in a checked-in luggage?

I never check my drone. In the U.S. all batteries must be carried on. Put it all in my GoPro case.
I never transport with the props on.

NEVER check ANY Lithium battery!! Hand carry every battery. There are very strict rules, and they will be confiscated in checked luggage.

Some countries have exemptions for medical equipment, like wheelchairs...but that’s it.

As per above I use a padded hard case... so no.

Since the rotor axes stick out from the drone both on top and bottom, and they are critical and sensitive components, I do not see how they are not damaged/abused a hard surface unless there is a dedicated whole/socket/space in the fitted case to accommodate them.

It is so easy to remove and then re-install the propellers that it would never occur to me to leave them on when transporting the drone where it might be handled roughly. Obviously the propellers are really tough, but I too am concerned about any pressure on those motor spindles. This will happen with, or without, the propellers on, but the props have more things to push against.

I used my 3D printer to create caps for the motor spindles. They also keep out any loose debris:

I think you can purchase something like this.
