I have always been aware of the instruction to remove gimbal clamp BEFORE starting motor where I assume gimbal goes through a self check procedure

I have never been clear if there is potential to DAMAGE. gimbal by starting motor with gimbal clamp in place ?

It's definitely not one of the most common ways people are damaging gimbals. Could it cause damage though? Perhaps.

You need to remove the gimbal clamp before turning the drone on, not before starting the motors. If you forget to remove the gimbal clamp enough times, it will overheat your gimbal motors and damage them.

Yes thanks , I used the term poorly and that was my query “ ie before pressing battery button to turn drone on “ .

Good I understand preflight checklist better .

Ii am glad it’s not as easy to forget with M2P as it’s one piece that comes off with cover

I used to always forget to remove the gimbal guard on my Phantom 4. I lost count of how many times that has happened to me. Luckily, there's been no damage to it. Since I started using the aviator "Remove Before Flight" tags, I've never forgotten to remove it. However, there's no easy place to hook one of those tags to the Mavic's gimbal cover.

It’s always a solution for the Mavic gimbal clamp as well.
I’ll get some shots and show how I solved it and post it here ;)
Thanks for the GREAT idea with tags !!

Its not ideal, and perhaps if done too often it'll damage the motors, but remember it does quickly realise the gimbal is obstructed / overloaded and will switch off the motors so I wouldn't worry if it happens every now and then.

The remove before flight tags are always cool though, have used those on the Phantom range in the past.
