Gimble question

It was my mistake I admit. I put the little square foam block under the gimble then forgot it was thereI heard a strange popping then reliized what I had done: when firing up the drone very little movement of the gimble,, but everything tracks perfect with all indications that it’s not damaged during flight: I’m inclined to leave it be, thoughts on the downside of this?

You should be ok, many have done this , that gimbal ribbon is pretty resistant to those pushes on the gimbal.

And it probably is just fine. This seems to rarely (if ever) cause damage these days as newer DJI drones are able to detect when something is preventing the gimbal from moving.
