Hi all.
I am an aussie living in Tottori city, Japan. (almost boonies) it is very small.
I love taking photos , take a camera everywhere much to my families displeasure (c`mon dad, put it away) I had never really considered a drone.
But my son got one for Xmas which was too advanced for him. So I taught myself how to use it, so I could teach him. Had a blast, been going to the park by myself since Xmas, (wife laughing) it is really a toy, bad photos/ video. But I realized how cool it would be to have a quality drone.
So now I am looking at the Mavic air. Kids toy drone is almost broke, so looking to replace that as well. Any suggestions for a quality drone for a ten y/o?

Looking forward to getting a Mavic air, and contributing here.
Thanks.

What's your budget? Any must-have features?

No must have features. My son will just be happy to fly around. But his drone now is a costco ultra-x, which to me looks and flies
as though it will only last days/ maybe weeks. I can control it but only while flying around. It has no holding ability and it changes its mind constantly. I am able to correct it. But my boy tries to fly it and it suddenly does its own thing he can not correct/ control it. So the only must have feature something kids can control with a bit of ease and survive a few crashes. I don`t mind replacing it a few times if needed if not too pricey. Budget?? don`t know. Am thinking after he gets good and he is showing good signs of ability now, maybe a spark after a year or two. but for now not too pricey.

Thanks for the welcome.

Drones without GPS are hard to fly since they aren't able to hold their position. This is why so many first time drone owners have no trouble flying DJI drones. So, you probably want to move to something that includes GPS positioning.

Here are a few drones to consider:

Thanks for your reply. After my last post and watching numerous Youtube vids. I came to the conclusion about GPS.
And actually found that same holy stone model. I will try to find that other one, and check it out. Thanks.

Hello! I live in Japan too. I’m in the Saitama area. How can we bring Japan pilots together. Something to think about. Mavic Air here.

Welcome from Georgia, the Peach State. I agree with the comments above that you should definitely get a drone with GPS and Altitude hold. The Holy Stone HS120D model is one of the lowest cost ones under $150 and their customer service will send you a free extra battery ($40 value) if you leave positive feedback on Amazon as a thank you. I owned one for a while and gave it to my son when I upgraded to the Mavic Pro.

Hey Spinrush. It`s a good idea. But for me, while my bird is not grounded I am. Only having sunday off each week and living in the boonies leaves no time for me to do travelling other than major holidays which are exclusively spent with my kids.
There must be other drone owners in the Saitama , Tokyo area that are not on this forum though.
I have a Mavic Air too. great so far. Though I am yet to take any footage worthy of making a video.
