Hi guys just flew my mm and had off thing happen;firstly display showed limited range due to extra payload(2x 4g strobes in front legs)limited altitude and range to 50 mtrs;;now here’s the problem;when I tried to fly back mm stopped 10 mtrs away from me ;;display showed 50 mtrs in red and mm would not fly nearer;tried rotating through 180 and flying backwards;same stopped at 10 mtrs away;fortunately I was over dry land so was able to walk to it but had it happen over water what then??;I didn’t initiate rth;;I have recalibrated compass and imu but satellites were 14 showing;any ideas;;thanks

It would have had nothing to do with the compass or IMU so recalibrating those wouldn't have made any difference.
As usual, it's necessary to look at teh flight data to see what was going on.

did you get the home point message before you took off,and did you move from the home point during the flight

Prop guards not on but think you nailed it ;;I turned on and got the homepoint updated-then walked 40/50 mtrs down the beach to launch-subsequent flight I took of from same place as homepoint and all worked good;oh plus I removed strobes-thanks for advise

This is part of why I toss down a pizza box lit as a "flight-pad". It also means I know the RTH point.
I have been coming back within 16" accuracy no matter the range out or RTH-request-distance.

Good idea! I saw some people who had folding launch pads, and even saw a Mavic Mini "bundle" on Amazon that had one, and thought it was sort of a silly gimmick, but that was before I realized:

  • Having a flat, dry place from which to take off can be really helpful (think wet, grassy area all around).
  • The launch pad can serve as a reminder of the RTH location.
  • It can also help develop your landing skills, I'd think, if you try to land on a specific spot/area.
