Help with "Precision Landing" feature

I'm hoping someone can provide me with a little more information about the precision landing feature for the Mavic. When enabled, do I need to manually do anything (hover for a certain period, height, etc), or does the feature take care of everything automatically? I don't get a message that it's been enabled on my phone, which makes me wonder if I'm not letting it hover for long enough. Further, the handful of times I've used it, it hasn't been all the precise, with the drone usually landing on the edge or side of the landing pad (bright orange against an asphalt ground). How precise is this feature supposed to be? Thanks!

Pay attention: precision landing is aitomatically enabled if vision is active AND you takeoff vertically for 10 meters or so.
