Hey everyone...thanks in advance for your thoughts / advice!

Was inspecting my roof, wanted to get a closer look (lower than minimum height flight) so I landed it on the roof. Good smooth landing, did not skedaddle or anything.

But now (because it's on a standard roof with an angle)...I'm getting a 30087 error code. Which will not allow me to take off! I did a chat room help session with DJI...who confirmed no over ride function, code, or other way to make it take off.

Any ideas? Any tricks to make it take off? I figure once it gets to 1.2 ft above the roof, it will settle into level flight and hover (just like it does when taking off from the ground). But I'm getting the feeling...not so much.

Thoughts?

Not an emergency ask...was able to retrieve it off the roof. But I think still a valid question...if you're not able to land on a flat surface.

Maybe a secondary question...what is the angle limitations for said "flat" surface? +/- 5 degrees? 10? 2?

Anyone know?

Thanks!

Drones come equipped with a "Moron Setting" this setting determines the allowable start\stop angle. For DJI Drones this setting CANNOT be adjusted, For other Drones you can hook them up to Betaflight and adjust it.
The moron setting for DJI Drones is about 37 degrees.

Couple of Things to Note When Landing at an Angle:

Consider adding the Rescue Jacket to your setup. This upgrade allows you to land at different angles—such as on rooftops—without triggering the drone’s built-in tilt protection mode.

The Rescue Jacket also gives you the ability to land while keeping the motors spinning, making it easier to take off again quickly without a full restart.

Please explain. It seems it would be possible to offset a sloped landing surface only if the drone was attached to the foam blocks at an angle.

The foam blocks prevent the motors from shutting down after landing? How?

If you hand land your Drone you know that flipping it on its side after you catch it will shut down the motors. ( you are engaging the moron setting manually)
The foam looks as if it would not allow the Drone to reach the cutoff point of 37 degrees if you must land on the roof. Darn good idea and if i was doing roofs it would be a good insurance policy IMO.

How? If the drone is attached level with respect to the bottom of the foam blocks and lands on a sloped surface, the drone and the foam blocks will be inclined at the same angle as the roof.

look at the pic of the drone in the snow the foam is stepped not level.

good point and Im not sure if that would work both uphill and downhill but then again I with my luck if I landed on a pitched roof the drone would simply skid down and fall off the side.

The Rescue Jacket has some Unique Features
  • Water Landings & Takeoffs:
Its low center of gravity works in tandem with the Wet Suit and airtight battery seals to allow stable landings on water—and confident takeoffs again.
  • Increased Visual Line of Sight:
Its bright, expanded footprint enhances visibility up to 3,000 feet, keeping your drone in sight even at long distances.
  • All-Terrain Landing Gear:
Designed to handle sand, mud, snow, rocks, and more. Built-in risers under the arms enable steep, uneven landings with ease.
  • The Rescue Jacket allows for the Drone to hover very Close Without Triggering Auto-Land.
The jacket’s unique build lets you hover inches from the surface without confusing the sensors—keeping your motors running and ready for takeoff even when landing on the Rooftops or Water.
  • Flexible, Durable, and Customizable:
Built to adapt. The Rescue Jacket, along with it extreme flexibility is easily modified by bending the Tail down to accomodate almost any extreme angle to land on as well as the Built in Risers under the arms for Negotiating wave angles as well.

We have quite a few videos of the Rescue Jacket in Action : Good example vid

If the drone is inclined relative to the bottoms of the foam blocks, it would reduce the angle from horizontal facing one way and increase the angle facing the other way.

I can see how the Rescue Jacket makes operation from water possible, but I don't understand some of the other things.

How does the it influence the control logic of the motors and the down-looking sensors to allow the drone to hover at lower altitude without triggering auto-landing? Or not switching the motors off after landing?

Is there a metal rod or something inside the flexible foam that allows it to be bent and maintain that bend?

Did you get into the Roofing Business all of a sudden. :p
When I have more time wil post a video , thank you.

I've made no career changes. I'm just trying to understand the statements you make for the product. I'm particularly puzzled about how the Rescue Jacket could change the landing control logic for the motors.
