Hey I hope everyone is having a good day. I just registered here but I've owned a Mavic Air 2 for a few years now and have flown various remote controlled aircraft off and on for years. I've also been taking photos with various dSLRs and Mirrorless cameras for many years.

I'm currently waiting for my part 107 temporary cert after passing the test and submitting my application last Friday. At least I think it submitted, IACRA says it is "signed by applicant" and doesn't let me do anything but view/print the application, but IACRA was also having trouble on Friday and it took me about 20 tries to get it signed, and even then I never really got a confirmation message. So who knows maybe it's just stuck and I'll be waiting forever.

Thought I'd join the group here to learn and share knowledge. I'm planning to start offering drone photography locally as a side business but mostly I find them fun and enjoy taking photos and making videos.

A big welcome to the forum from the UK!

Greetings from Birmingham Alabama

Thanks for the welcomes!

I've been to Bakersfield, and Birmingham. My trips to Canada have all been to the western half - Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Kitimat, and points between - I've spent weeks driving around western Canada but I'd love to visit more of the country. As for the UK, that's on my "want to visit" list too, but I haven't made it there yet.

Welcome from the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, USA. We have a Member's Map in the Upper Right of the Title Bar. Click on "Members" and then Click on "Member's Map…" Check it out and you might find some new flying friends.

Congratulations on passing the exam. I've read a topic or two of other folks having issues with IACRA and other government sites due to the layoffs and recent firings… Keep checking, keep a copy of your exam passing with you when flying and the authorities know what is going on… but applying for a 107 authorization may be problematic without your Certification Number. But just wait until that permanent Certification card arrives and take it outside in the sunshine and the FAA Logo Hologram looks like it's on FIRE…

If they have not been laid off or fired, you should get your answer, they are very helpful and easy to talk to…

Good Luck and again, Congrats!

Thanks for the congrats!

I've been dealing with various federal agencies more than usual recently and they have two common features: Abysmal, over-complicated, and fragile web interfaces that barely work, and a sense that the employees trying to keep everything going are not having a great time right now. I don't have any answers, but I'm glad I can afford to be patient for a few weeks and hope things move forward. If we get into April I'll probably start exploring those support channels you mentioned.

The test itself was pretty good, in the sense that it tests whether you studied the materials or practiced to pass a test. I passed a few different practice tests with good scores, but as soon as the test started I was in, "not only have I never seen this question in any practice test or study material, but the way it is worded makes me question my knowledge of the subject," territory.

I wound up with a reference to UA.I.E.K3d. I suspect the miss was that I said the RPIC was responsible for ensuring maintenance of a drone before flight, but in re-reading the reg it says the drone owner is responsible for all of that. Of course, none of that is likely to ever matter to me as I don't have any interest in flying a drone over assemblies of people, I don't have a drone that would be legal for that sort of flight, and if I was hired to do that, I'd sure as heck research every aspect of it before agreeing to such a job.

That map feature is nice. Doesn't look like I have too many active people from the forum near me, but it's good to see that there are some folks semi-local to me.
