Hi all. New to the forum but sorta not new to drones. Just pulled the trigger on a Mavic Air with getFPV's 10% off StPatty's sale ... woot :D

Got me feet wet with an ebay phantom (v1?) way back when. That thing was unrecognizable by the time I got through with it what with a Banggood gimble (remember those?) a GoPro silver (remember those?) 5.8 FPV - front *and* rear cams, mind you lol. And to handle the massive added weight, Maddog double capacity lipos. The thing flew so awful but was still able to get stuff like this ...

Then I remember the Naze FC and these little carbon fiber drones were all the rage. I was too stupid for Naze so I went with the pretty UI of CC3D's OP FC. I really liked that FC. Looks like they had a falling out. Oh well I still never got good at mini multirotors ... this is all before they call em racing and freestyle now screeming down the sides of skyscrapers lol. Life stuff got me to sell everything off ... well at least try to. Still got random 3S based stuff that no one wants lol.

But I had the itch to get back and running my own business now, an A/V drone could actually be a legit expense for us so heck why not. So I got back into it. I see this little toy thing called a "Spark" that had more capability than my original Phantom lol wow. I ended up on the Mavic Air because I am still too chicken to really pull out a Phantom sized drone and this thing is just amazing.

Anyway that's me and hope I don't crash. :D

Welcome to Mavic Pilots from Dayton Ohio USA! I had a P1 and added a gimbal and GoPro Hero 3 Silver, it was very impressive at the time, technology has come a long way in a few short years! Enjoy your new Mavic Air, I love mine, Fly safe and have fun!
My first Phantom 1 rig... scary to fly in comparison... I can't say I miss it LOL

Welcome to the forum . .
I hope you will find our site helpful and look forward to any input , photo's/video's you might post .
Don't be shy and ask anything if you can't find it by searching .:)

Thank you for the welcomes.

Yea it boggles the mind how they've been able to pack basically what was in that P1 into the Spark. Crraaazzzyyy. I do not miss my P1 only because I had done so much to it the only thing the same about it was literally the main board, FC, and ESCs lol. By then it flew like absolute crap. That's why I do not intend to do a thing with my Mavic Air unless it is either to reduce weight and/or increase safety. And the increase safery part cannot add significant weight.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Oh wow I found my old P1 footage lol. Please understand this was back in 2013 when the FAA had no clue what to do with these flying cameras and most pilots (myself not excluded) did stupid stuff with their drones. Just wanted to share it because of the difference in tech to today is insane ...

Got it in the mail finally!!! (getFPV's 2-3 days is really more like 5 days oof)

Wow. Just wow. The advancement since P1 is just insanity. Every design aspect of this drone is so intentional from how the arms fold to how the radio collapses. Speaking of the arms, very clever to have the rears turn like that for rigidity (built several foldable 250-class minis and this was always the weak point) but leaving the fronts to fold back for crashes. Focused on flight characteristics mainly and the stability is just ridiculous. This is the a/v drone I always wanted since I first lay my hands on the P1.

Sport mode ... lol. I thought my button was broken. But hey it's not for FPV racing. Just thought it was funny. Still fun to run figure 8's around garbage cans what with the stability even in sport mode.

DJI Go 4 ran perfectly fine on my craptastic LG K30 with a measly 1 GB ram and 1.4 GHz quadcore. I still plan on using the Nvidia tablet but didn't have a mount yet for the controller.

That app ... what a pain. I had already run it days ago just to see what it might look like. I guess you don't want to do that. Once I had everything connected, it kept saying I had an Inspire. I'm like obviously DJI doesn't peak into your banking cookies. Came across some threads here but none of the sequence oriented advice worked. What did work was to uninstall the app, run some sort of cleaner or clear your phone's cache, connect everything up, *and then* open the app for the first time. Happy days from there.

These friggin FAA restrictions man. We did not have this back in the days of the Naza FC. Waited so long for this drone, waited so long for the batteries to charge lol, finally get out to the park near me with just an hour of daylight ... CANNOT TAKEOFF RESTRICTED AIRSPACE d'oh!! I just want to fly 1 foot off the ground around some garbage cans, man. I got desperate and gave my phone number for an exception, flew for about 1 and a half battery's worth and got out of there lol.

Good times.

I jumped in when the Phantom 3 Standard was released and never looked back. Now I am flying a Mavic Pro.
I have not built one from parts yet, but considering it for some fast and acrobatic flying. 2016-10-17 10.45.02.jpg

Rip out the Naza and put in a Naze lollll.

I should correct myself earlier when I was making fun of the Mavic Air sport mode. I was in restricted flying mode which I think nerfs the performance of the drone? Or does it just impose a smaller distance / height limit? Well, if so, then yea the sport mode is super weak lol. Still love this thing just looking for a safe place to fly near me.
