Not sure if this has been discussed but here goes. If this has been discussed, please do post the link.

Aside from the obvious (e.x. save time in having to edit the video), is there any other difference between a hyperlapse taken by an MA2 versus shooting the same scene in video and then speeding this up later using video editing tools? Is quality any different?

When using Hyperlapse mode on the MA2, you can set the shutter speed slower than 1/30, all the way down to 1 second plus (assuming you are using NDs that cut out enough light to use a slow shutter speed). This lets you have motion blur in your hyperlapse, making the motion look much smoother. Hyperlapse also applies its own digital stabilization, which may or may not be better than what you could do in post.

Quality, for sure, may become different. Even when you convert your video from one file to another (from mp3 to avi for instance). But some video editors for sure compensate this difference. For instance, on a particular site you may find information and instructions on how to use special features regarding that in a video editor. I hope it will be helpful.
