I met the drone police today

hi fellow flyers
went up to one my local flying spots today ,and met up with the drone police unit who happened to be there,
had a great chat with them, and they allowed me to watch them fly, and ask about the drone they were flying,
it was an Evolve Dynamics Sky Mantis cost around 39K , has a one hour flight time and is equipped with a duel camera set up including FLIR ,they were just getting some flight time in, to keep current with their flight logs
if you log onto the Evolve Dynamics web site and select Sky Mantis you will see all the specs
it was quite some beast

Sounds like fun! I would love to meet the drone Popo! I'd no doubt annoy them with 10,000 questions and maybe get arrested for impeding operations and there I'd be in the houscow still asking questions. I'm sure they would send me home just to get rid of me.

Niiiiice! I can't even afford FLIR for my iPhone at the mo (checks latest price; aaargh, went up $10 to $409). Can't imagine having it on a drone, but of course I'm not in LE… so.

I'm with you... 'Been so limiting not having FLIR on my smartphone all these years. I've found my DJI drones nearly useless taking birthday party videos without it.

told you it was a beast ,its even better close up ,but at the price they sell for ,i cant see one being in my Christmas stocking any time soon ,i like the arm switch on the RC wouldnt want to be anywhere near those props when they are spinning thats for sure, definitely not suitable for hand launch /catch ,they also said it has a boat feature , and it compensates for the decks movement when it takes off /lands on a moving vessel, the heart of the thing is its camera its bigger than most hobby drones its not pretty to look at but in the air it doesnt look so ugly

Never heard of this company or its products before, makes you wonder (realise) there's probably a lot more incredible drones out there than we know, even those of the really advanced / more specialised DJI range of heavy drones.

Be nice if it was all UK tech, development, building, manufacturing of at least some components, and not just a UK company bringing in Chinese tech.
Hopefully so, and this being reflected in the end cost rather than huge markup.

Looking at that photo you posted, those nav lights look less effective than DJIs !

@MAvic_South_Oz ,I would imagine that in order to purchase one of those drones ,would require apart from the considerable cost,also a very good reason to need such a drone, and the ability to have the proper training to fly it ,probably why they dont feel the need to have a comprehensive web site to tempt customers ,it probably has features that are only known to LE s and other government funded users ,that they dont want to be revealed who knows
