Hi guys, I was wondering what advice you guys can give me concerning the best time of the day to fly. I live in the Caribbean islands so it's mostly sunny here. However I find my self dealing with lots of sun glares at certain angles when I fly. I usually fly between 8:00am and 9:00am and I am thinking about what's the best time to prevent unnecessary shadows etc. Should I be flying with the sun at the back of my drone? I use ND filters and a sun guard on my Mavic pro platinum. I will appreciate so advice on this. Thanks again.

Golden Hour! The hour before sunset is a very good time to fly!

Also Blue Hour! The hour after sunrise.

Although Blue Hour is tough for those that like to sleep in. :)

There are I am sure lots of apps that will do this but I know the PolarPro app is free so I reccomend that one. It will tell you the best time of day to fly(golden hour) and the weather and such as it relates to flying a drone. You can even have it send you notifications about when the best time to fly that day or when the wind is too high to fly

Be careful with the sun and flying directly into it. Several threads about obstacle sensors firing off because of the sun. Turn off obstacle avoidance if you're on the water and coast like I am in Savannah.

Please do not take my advice unless you're in an area and flying above tree line where you can see it.

Others might have some better takes on this...

i find early morning is best for a number of reasons

1. very few people around and thus easy to stick with the 30m from people rule
2. Light is great
3. wind is usually calm. After midday the sea breeze usually gets up fairly strongly here
4. gives me the rest of the day to edit my video.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It's looking like sunrise or sunset for ideal times. Thanks again

I would concur with Blue Hour and Golden Hour rules.....but these times dont always give you the best light for the project. Combine your light requirements with your project requirements to get your fly time. If your flying for fun fly it ALL the time!!! :)

Let's see...best time to fly.
  1. When controller and all my batteries are charged
  2. Just before sunrise.
  3. Just after sunrise.
  4. Before breakfast.
  5. After breakfast.
  6. Before lunch.
  7. After lunch.
  8. After my afternoon nap.
  9. Just before dinner.
  10. Just before sunset.
  11. Just after sunset.
  12. After dark.
  13. When it's not raining.
  14. When the wind not blowing faster than my drone flys.
  15. When I don't have to wear insulated underwear and arctic boots.
About covers it...I think...
