How do I transfer my pictures from my gallery to the iMovie app thanks in advance.

Use the “select media” tab in a project/ event or drag and drop there. You must create and name a new project before this will be possible. Then once you select and add to the timeline you can adjust length and add effects/transitions.

Sure... it’s a bit arcane until you actually use it for something.
