Indoor flight, seems easy....

Just tried my first indoor flight, so easy, so stable. Checking online though everyone warns against doing indoor in a tighter space, but really, no problem as far as I can tell, am I missing something?

I turned RTH to hover and object avoidance off as it detects pretty much everything.
Had a set of prop guards that came with the package I bought, put those on.
Took off with sticks and set mode to tripod.
No real drift until oddly I got up towards the ceiling in a vaulted area and the Mavic wanted to rise, simple adjustment using the controller to correct.
My floor is a mix of tile and bamboo in that area so unlike carpet maybe the optical sensors were able to pick out patterns?
I ran it into a wall a couple times nice and slow to check the prop guards, worked wonderfully. I cannot see using them in general but when shooting indoors I can't see not using them.
Tripod mode makes the drone move so smoothly that I was able to navigate halls and doorways without any real fear and the prop guards make doorways and such pretty worry free.
I can see using the drone inside to get that from up high angle shot inside without much worry, am I wrong?

Yeah everybody's doing it now!

Prop Guards are the key. Most indoor flyers dont take that added precaution as they dont have a set of guards to put on. You are mitigating alot of the risks with the prop guards installed and using the slowed down Tripod Mode. Some say GPS can inadvertently "'kick in" and cause positioning issues when indoors.

I figured GPS might cause some issues though in my testing it did not really. It sounds like GPS loss may cause some drift but as you say the prop guards work well. I am glad mine came with the package I bought or I may have never acquired some. The cage design looks awesome for indoor use but the increased weight/decreased flight time seems much. The guards I have seem very light weight and I suspect have less of an impact on performance, but no way to test.
Now I gotta get playing with my audio editing tools and see if I can't perfect cutting the noise of the props out of video. I think I can, if not, more practice

the "prop wash" will cause the aircraft to get sucked up toward the ceiling if too close. I agree that triopod mode makes it safer, make sure the lights are bright with contrasting colors on the floor to help the optical sensors.

It looks like you have a good handle on indoor flying. After flying, check the motors and gimbal area for debris that may have been kicked up by the propwash (pet hair, that sort of thing).

I am guessing you did it during daytime? Why don't you try it in the evening when it's rather dark indoor? ;)

Seriously though, if the RC says your are in ATTI mode, please be extra careful. If you are in Opti mode, it's pretty safe and easy.

Be awesome if DJI made a way to toggle Opti on. Ya, dark rooms, nope. In reality indoors I will almost certainly be using photo lights of some kind so the scene will always be brightly lit. I could see carpet or smooth flooring with little variation being a problem in some areas. I think the prop guards are what makes the stress level disappear pretty much though

Dont forget, there is no microphone on the Mavic, the recorded sound is from your phone.......

I too will fly (hover around) indoors. Weather here in coastal NE US in winter cuts down on outside flying, just too much wind most days.
Indoor flying also cuts down on how often I have to dust around the living room ;)

Don't get too close to the ceiling because it can suck itself right to it. I am speaking from experience :).

If that happens can the drone break itself free or is physical help needed
?
just a guess but id say no,least till the mavic reduces power and drifts down because theres no air space above to navigate with

I've never been in this situation, but can see just from a physics point, when reduction of power was low enough to allow it to leave the ceiling, it might drop like a rock too !

yes depending on the rate of suction loss

When you mount the prop guards don’t forget to turn on “prop guards mounted”, (or something like that). It’s under aircraft advanced settings I believe.
