One cannot be 100% until they see it for themselves with their own eyes in their own region or at least read about it in their specific user guide because these user guides are not only sw specific but also country specific. Nevertheless, I believe these are accurate and this is going to be a problem for the Mini 5 Pro in the US:

I just read about over 250g weight issue as well. OOPS!
My mini 4 pro is registered (as was my mini 3 when I had it) so I could fly legally with the plus battery but at least they were legal with the standard battery. This is not so with the 5. I'm very surprised DJI would let this pass....

Because DJI prepared the manual so that the drone could be sold in the US. They wouldn't revise it after deciding that the drone temporarily not be sold in the US.

The download pages on DJI show language-specific manuals for download, not country-specific downloads.

Until there are more in every bodies hands too see for ourselves I tend to doubt the weight reports. I posted earlier one reviewer's Mini 5"s weight and it was 249, with battery and sd card installed

The Mini 4 5 Pro's weight is stated in the DJI specs. 249.9 grams +/- 4 grams.

Yes, I did mean the Mini 5 Pro. Disregard any rumors and look at DJI's specs for the drone. 249.9 grams +/- 4 grams.

The 1 g difference likely exceeds the accuracy tolerance of the scale!

The bigger issue for me is the RID broadcasting. Given that DJI will no longer guarantee that the Mini 5 Pro with the standard Mini 5 battery is still under 250g, (249.9g +/- 4grams), making the pilot responsible for making sure their takeoff weight is under 250g, not DJI, I presume DJI will force the Mini 5 Pro to broadcast RID even with the new Standard battery.

Assuming that is correct, the only recent RID free Mini DJI drone remains the Mini 4 Pro with the Mini 4 Pro regular battery.

Similarly, everyone with a Mini 5 Pro will now also presumably have to register as a pilot with the FAA and put their number on the drone, and will not be able to fly the Mini 5 Pro in foreign countries that require sub 250g takeoff off weight.

Visions of police and "users" all carrying around scales to prove the true weight of their "product!" LOL!

Can't imagine any Mini 5 Pro actually being on the 4g low variance side of the 249.9g! If so, DJI would make all of them that weight of 245.9 grams to make sure none would exceed 249.9g, which is how they guarantee the max 249g weight of the Mini 4 Pro, with the regular Mini 4 Pro battery.

So, that begs the question of how much additional weight you can add to the Mini 5 Pro with the regular battery before it will choke and either not take off, or start broadcasting RID.

Im not sure it is possible to trigger the RID on the Mini using a standard battery by adding weight to it.

I'm not sure either, but it poses an interesting dilemma.

If it truly isn't possible to trigger RID whenever the regular battery is used (as they represent), regardless of the weight attached, it makes the Mini 5 Pro the perfect drone for dropping whatever size and weight of explosive it is capable of carrying, limited only by the one way range of its standard battery with that extra weight attached. Without RID and without pilot registration and without GEO, things get dicey for locating and limiting those with nefarious intent.

They could potentially have made it broadcast RID with the regular battery if it detected any additional weight at lift off. They say no RID with the regular battery, so what do they do instead, when it detects additional weight at takeoff?

I only have the plus batteries, but i do have plenty of mini 4 batteries that i could maybe do some tests.

Theoretically, RID should only broadcast in the countries it is required, based upon GPS.

However, if you hover the drone inside near a laptop or desktop, the PC should be able to detect the drone as a nearby detected wifi connection under the drone's serial number, as DJI's RID is all wifi, based off 2.4GHz.

Android drone detection apps can also detect DJI aircraft, but not the iPhone detection apps, as they can only detect BT RID not used by DJI. Then there is the $1099 Dronetag RIDER that can detect it up to 5 miles away!

How might a drone make a determination of weight prior to takeoff? Or even soon after takeoff?

Wasn't there a discussion here that pointed out that RID on the Mini 4 was switched on based on the battery type, not weight?
