Just wondering, has any one seen an Android app that would switch off wifi and other communictions when app 'xyz' is opened?

And then perhaps switch wifi etc. back on say 30 seconds or so after app 'xyz' is closed?
It could be quite handy is you don't want control apps checking for and maybe forciing updates.

There is exactly an app for what you have in mind. It is called Macrodroid where you can create a macro which essentially is a series of commands triggered by an event (e.g. app launch)

For example, When Fly app is launched I have the phone terminate all other apps, set itself to maximum brightness and volume, switch off Wi-Fi, enable 4G data etc.

If you don't want apps to automatically update, just turn off auto-updating in your Android settings.
Then you are in control of what updates and when.
