so i asked this elsewhere on this site: I down loaded kittyhawk and was able to sync it with my dji app. I took it back to the site I wanted to film and got the message: first time must be with internet connection. I brought it home and fired it up where I have wifi. I never got any message about internet and don't know if I am good to go or not. Anyone else had this experience? Advice please? It is a considerable distance from my house to my shooting site and I don't want to go back for nothing. TIA

I’m actually not really certain why Kittyhawk syncs with your DJI account other than to have your flight information all in one place. It doesn’t transfer your FAA authorization to your DJI account for unlock purposes.

In the US if you are flying in controlled airspace you have to:

1. Get authorization from the FAA.
This can usually be done from within the Kittyhawk app.

2. Unlock the aircraft through DJI.
Depending on the airspace you are flying in you may have to get your aircraft unlocked by DJI. This isn’t always required, sometimes you can just check the box in the DJI app, but if you are close enough to the airport or in the runway path you will need to get the drone unlocked. This can either be done on site in the app if it has internet access or you can get a self unlock from DJI ahead of time and download it to the drone beforehand when you have internet access.

What you are experiencing is that you still need to unlock the aircraft through DJI and since you don’t have an internet connection it can’t unlock it for you. One of the easiest ways to solve this is to enable your cell phone to be used as an internet hot spot and allow your control device to connect to your cell phone’s internet to get the unlock.

Seems you may have synced if you were on your own wi-fi. To test, simply go far enough from your wi-fi signal at home and give it a try to see if it gives you same message. Make sure your devices are in airplane mode to test.
