I have created a new Litchi utility and a set of instructions on how to do light painting with litchi.

Light painting with a drone is a type of light painting where a drone equipped with LED lights is flown in the air to create patterns and designs. The drone’s movements and lights are captured using a long exposure from a tripod-mounted camera, resulting in stunning and unique images.

Here is an example of a waypoint path displayed in Google Earth Pro to be used for light painting:

Interesting post, and I might just give that a go. Something a bit simpler to start with though.

Could explain the Nazca lines. 😎😁

Any chance you have some samples of ones you've already completed using this technique?

I do not currently have any examples. Occasionally I have seen others mention light painting with a drone and it has been something that interests me. However, I have only created this utility the other day and haven't had a chance to use it yet.

This is really cool. I'll give it a go in the near future

I've written a utility that converts a Google Earth Pro path into a series of independent line segments. This allows one to animate the path, creating a simulation of the light-painting process. Here is an example result.

Great software. Thank you very much. I only done a basic star but i will update once flown. Thanks again

This is great. Only question is it can only be viewed NORTH/SOUTH. Any way to do EAST/WEST? or NE/SW NW/SE?
You can use Litchi's Rotate and Move tools when you click on the wrench to move the mission into a position suitable for your location. In the screenshot below POI #1 is the approximate location of my camera (on a tripod) and POI #2 is the point the drone turns around when it is uploading the next batch of waypoints so you do not get a blob in your resulting photo. In my Light Painting mission below there were 861 waypoints so that means the drone needs to turn around 8 times for this mission.

This mission was done on a Phantom 3 Standard but you can get even more accurate results by using a more current drone like a Mavic 2 or even a Mavic 3. To use a Mavic 3 you use @DJ Wes conversion utilities to convert the Litchi mission to a DJI Fly waypoints mission (Litchi Mission to DJI Fly or Pilot 2 Waypoints).

Here's the P3S mission in Litchi:

And here's the resulting Light Painting:

Cool....I get it now. Rotating a mission was difficult to understand at first but once was shown how it was done now understand.

Wes has lots of details on his site about the process involved. Please feel free to ask me any questions. Also another user @RAC DJI is also very familiar with the process. He uses his Mavic 3 Pro so is even more familiar with converting Litchi CSV files to DJI Fly.
