Lightning cable for iPad

Can a USB C cable plugged into the controller charge port be plugged into an iPad. Or, do you have to plug into the existing RC port on top of the controller only? And, can anyone recommend a cable to connect my Mavic to my iPad?

I use a 11 inch cable USBC to IPAD and it works great!
