Likely Defunct Airports -- Any new requirements beyond attempt to notify?

I'm fortunate to have a farm across the street from my house and permission from the owner (I know it's not needed, but is a good neighbor thing to do), to fly over his property. However, my takeoff point (my house) is within the 5-mile radius of 2 'airports' both of which look to be defunct, and the contact numbers both come up disconnected when I try to call:

AirNav: OH44 - Head Field Airport

AirNav: OH57 - Berlin Station Landing Strip Airport

I'm flying under 336--am I under any obligation for further attempts to notify beyond trying to call the disconnected contact numbers, either under the current regs or the upcoming revisions?

What about driving out there one day and checking on the status of the airport in person.

You state that you are within 5 miles but not how close you actually are. It sounds like you have done your due diligence in trying to contact them. Just keep in mind that they might be used for an emergency landing if they are still usable.

Those airports are little turf runways, probably adjacent to the owner's houses. They are private airports. If you search for the airports in airnav.com it shows the contact info for their owners and managers. I don't think you will need their permission. Just try to notify them. Heck, I guess you could just try knocking on their doors.
