MA video recording in approx 4 min clips at a time

Hello fellow MA'rs. When I record video with my MA, it's cutting the video of my whole flight into 4 minute or so clips. When I get back I home, rather that one whole video 15 mins or so, I get these 4 minute or so clips which is kind of annoying especially when the cut is right in the middle something I'm really wanting to shoot. Anyone else having this issue? Is this normal? I haven't read anything about this or seen anything on youtube about it.

It's the file system 4 GB limit. There are applications to join them back together again.

On my iMac in iMovie I just put contiguous clips in order and don’t add a transition. The clips play on my computer and on YouTube as if there was only one 8-10 min clip. i.e. I can’t see the fact that there are multiple clips in playback.

In time, you’ll find this isn’t an issue. As you make more videos, you’ll realize that long, continuous shots are boring and painful to watch. Don’t torture your viewers. Great videos are made up of short, 7-10 second clips, some longer, some shorter. It’s also easier to work with a bunch of short clips, than ingesting a long clip that you have to pull out the interesting stuff.

Shoot with a plan.....get your clips.....put them together, add some music....and you’re suddenly at the next level....

As Fred said above, plus for just about all social media use, you want your entire clip only 3 - 4 minutes long in its entirety to hold people’s attention viewing them.
Editing clips is probably as important as how well shots are composed and executed during the flight.
Enjoy learning and evolving with that side of cinematic drone filming.

To answer your question, this is completely normal, they are actually 5GB clips. So yes, a 20 minute vid, will be 4 five minute clips. Its just the way it is. The drone works on the fat32 system, computer talk. Therefor why it does this. There is software for stitching them back together.

The FAT32 file size limit is 4 GB, not 5 GB.

Check the file sizes. 4 minutes of MA 4k shouldn't come close to the FAT32 max file size of 4gb.

Almost any editing software will seamlessly join those clips together so it's a bit of a non issue. It's not like someone stopped the tape and popped in a new one

The MA video chip reads out at 100 Mb/s, so 4 minutes should be 3 GB.

If producing 2-3 files for just one shot is bugging you, I posted a quick solution some time ago:

I do agree, however, with points made above: if I planned a little better, I wouldn’t have to buy some many new Hard Discs to back up all my drone films!
