Maiden Flight Advice?

Yup, that's what I'm on (18 quid a month in the UK)

Photoshop and aftereffects (still starting down that rabbit hole) are worth it too

I'm just re-uploading the video, as YouTube has done something terrible with it.. Re-encoding at a higher bit rate to see if it doesn't do it again.
First try with Divinci. Got up for a flight between rain showers today. Not complaining, we need rain or else they won't reopen the national forest and that's where all the mtb trails are!

I don't like the color of clip 1 for sure. Clip 2, I'm thinking of filing a housing code violation, on behalf of the birds, for that roof.

I forgot some steps in the editing, so I'll keep working at it and learning. Software is way deep, even in the free beta version.

Yeah, takes a little getting used to, make sure you shoot in D-Cinelike, and shutter 180 to your frame rate (120 if 60fps / 50 if 24/25 etc etc) look at the clip from flying towards the trees, there's hardly any motion blur, I know sounds odd but moving footage without motion blur just looks odd to humans (why watching high framerate footage like 60fps stuff usually doesn't look as good as 24/25 fps even if it is 'smoother'). Premier just introduced a really nice 'auto' colour matching/grading tool, and it's brilliant, can colour grade one scene, then 'match' other scenes to the same grade, or pick a picture/frame from a 'well known movie' and grade to that if you like instead, it's brilliant (I'll deffo use it in the future)

It's deffo as much science as it is art colour grading.... But practice makes perfect :)

I have to look at the shutter to frame rate again. I thought I had it set that way, but it doesn't show. Can I adjust frame rate in post if I get it wrong in the camera?

Yeah, just set the project to a different frame rate, and when you output it will be converted. I tend to shoot on the mavic at 60fps gives me some scope for slow motion then. Honestly it looks fine, just didn't seem enough motion blur was all. What ND Filter were you using? ND8/16 tends to be the sweet spot for most, ND32 in bright sunshine.

Although I'm hardly one to speak, I regularly get the white balance wrong :)

ND 16, I don't have a 32. I have 4/8/16 in both regular and polarized.

Thanks for your hints and tips, it is greatly appreciated.

Hey I'm learning too, so hey. Just rendering some footage from the other day in 2.7k/60 see what it looks like on YouTube, just been playing with the colour matching stuff, it's really very good, only minor tweaks needed after you grade your first shot, pretty impressive!

look into slowing down your yaw and gimbal movements as well. helps smooth out video
Yeah I mention that in my video above, 0.10 on yaw and between 5-10 on gimble speed is what I stick too

I have slowed down both, I'm working my way down to where I'm comfortable. After flying fpv racing drones, it's hard to adjust to more sluggish stick inputs. Just retraining my brain, to a new skill.

Just remember, they will only be sluggish around the center, not the extremes, you can adjust the gain, so it's more deliberate around the center, and scales up to normal outside of that.

Here's some footage from over the fields the other day that I used in the VLOG above, It's uploaded in 2.7k/60 so until YouTube process it you will only get 360/480p... but the UHD formats will become available after it's finalised processing.

Nice! How far out were you flying? Also, what was your peak altitude for most of the shots? I got distracted by the train... :)

At the end (by the canal boats) I was 3/4 mile out, flying 35 feet below me (why I stayed up, as didn't have a true alt reading, so didn't want to bump into any power lines) Plus there was a helicopter flying around (see it's shadow right at the end of the canal shots fly over) and obv didn't want to bump into that either.

Probably up 30 or 40 feet(ish)

Just noticed clipped the helicopter shadow, So here's a still :) See the shadow top left(ish)

i took mine out for a little flight tonight, getting more comfortable with the controls etc. will eventually stop flying in the same residential area and go exploring.. in a week i head north to cottage country (muskokas) where I'm staying there is NO NFZ, so I'm going to be burning up batteries for sure!

since i only shoot video in 1080 (computer can't handle 4k) I'm working on figuring out the best video settings without having a ND filter (spent enough already) and practicing my slow controlled movements.

I think I may switch back to 1080p to make editing easier on my laptop and to match up with my gopro 3. 4k is enticing, but I don't even own a 4k TV. :)

I know what you mean about costs, but it really is better to have an nd filter, even if you just get one (16 prob) you will get better results. They are not super expensive, even get one of the cheaper sets, don't need to blow hundreds on them.

I got some Neewer ones first ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BBFTK69/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_sYcqBbBQ37BGW) and I'll be honest they are perfectly good, I've got Skyreet ones now, and got the ND64 and ND1000 for long exposure shots as well (when I get chance to play with that, need a still wind free day!)

But honestly, worth grabbing some, makes matching frame rate to shutter so much easier, else you just have to adjust it all in post anyhow to make it 'feel' right.

But hey, save up and when your happy you have the flying down pat, then invest (why I bought cheap ones initially)

Also worth remembering, nd filters do something else too, they protect the lense of the camera from tree branches scratching it [emoji6]

Neewer 6 Pieces Pro Lens Filter Kit for DJI Mavic Air Drone Quadcopter Includes: ND4, ND8, ND16, ND4/PL, ND8/PL, ND16/PL, Made of Multi Coated Waterproof Aluminum Alloy Frame Optical Glass(Gold) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C9RMGRT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_O4cqBbHJCRKTF

I bought the same and they have been nothing but quality for me.

$39 on amazon.ca for me... not bad i was actually looking at those to begin with but wasn't sure about quality. glad to hear they work good.

I've got lots of learning to do about camera settings and post productions etc. i really bought this thing because i love flying them lol

I have been flying fpv drones for two years and this is such a dream to fly. So fun and then you add the video and picture aspect on it, it was a no brainer for me.

If the weather cooperates, I'll be combining this with my love of mountain biking. Can't wait.

We will be going to Yellowstone in a few days, I wish I could fly there! I'm sure I'll find a couple of awesome places to fly between here and there though.
