The drone icon on my map does not point in the direction the drone is pointing. Why

If you mean that the aircraft arrow is pointing in the wrong direction relative to the north arrow, then the aircraft compass is most likely suffering from local magnetic interference or, less likely, needs to be calibrated. Do not take off.

If the direction is correct relative to north, but the entire map is oriented wrongly relative to the direction that you are facing then that's a problem with the app and and the compass on your mobile device. That's a relatively common problem that doesn't negatively affect flying.

Thanks for all that you do on these forums sar104. Because of you posts, checking orientation is on my checklist before lifting off.

It could be the phone needs calibrating, swirl it in a horizontal 8 shape and while doing so turn it upside down.
