There is something significant about the activation occurring in the country of origin. CovertDrones is selling activated Creator Combo units that are new and unflown for $5400 plus tax, and then shipping 2 of the batteries a week later.. However, he explicitly disclaims any warranty capability and any Care Refresh ability, unlike Adorama that explicitly includes a DJI 1 Year Limited Warranty for $4649. Not sure where he is getting them from.
This is the first I have heard that drones are getting activated before being sold and that too, sold as new. An activated drone is considered second hand and not new anymore. It will NOT show up on the second purchases account.
Covert drones says:
Important Disclaimer:
Please note that DJI has explicitly stated that the DJI Mavic 4 Pro is not sold in the USA. Any DJI Mavic 4 Pro that is imported into the USA will not be covered under any DJI warranty. This means that DJI Care Refresh nor Manufactures Warranty are NOT honored by DJI for this product, regardless of purchase location. Additionally, the drone will undergo activation prior to shipping. Rest Assured the drone can still be bound to your account and the drone is completely unused.
I think it is important that he says DJI determines the warranty, not the retailer. He's saying this to cover himself but I can assure you the Mavic 4 Pro has a warranty from somewhere, it just may not be from the US. He is flat out wrong if he thinks the drones from Adorama have no warranty but I expect him to say that because you know....competition. But he does say "purchase location" and not "activation location."
Sorry I wasn't clear about my comments to the statement "Some exporters Activate their units before shipping to the US, so that country show up in DJI records." I should have said I agree with "Some exporters Activate their units before shipping to the US" and I disagree with "...so that country show up in DJI records." I believe some exporters are selling used drones and telling you they activated them so can they tell you they are new which is slightly illegal but I understand why Covert has to do this because he's not an authorized seller. Any drone you buy from him (not just the
M4P) runs the risk of not having a valid warranty and he would be wise to warn you when he says:
Please Note: Covert Drones is an independent reseller, not affiliated with or endorsed by DJI or its distribution network
If I bought a new drone and I didn't get a chance to activate it myself (you know, start the clock for Care Refresh) then I would immediately know it's a used drone because what I said is absolutely true: "a DJI drone can only be activated once." Obviously there are exceptions if DJI get ahold of it. I believe if Adorama couldn't offer a US warranty for their
M4P drones, they would have not sold them meaning there is no option for an authorized reseller to sell drones with no warranty.
Just to be clear, it doesn't matter what the reseller explicitely declares, the warranty is determined by DJI and not the reseller or anyone else. If I sell you my 4 year old drone and I exclaim it has a DJI warranty, does that make it so? C'mon I thought we've been thru this already, why does it have to be this confusing (I realize the Mavic 4 Pro itself is confusing); none of this have ever been an issue prior to April 2025. All of a sudden we have all this confusion because one drone didn't launch in America?
