If your going to fly using the movie mask I'd recommend the bluetooth controller the drone might have flown away by the time you remove the phone.

Another option which maybe safer is to use 2 phones, one in the movie mask and one connected to the remote controller.
If you use anrdroid you can hotspot one phone to the other and cast the DJI Fly view from the one to the other
This way you can fly in the normal configuration.

I use an app called apowermirror on both phones to do this

There is some latency, but at least your hands will be near the phone screen to change flight settings quickly

Yes that is another option. I have also done this to stream my Android phone to my Oculus Quest - very nice result as well, except the little latency, but again, the MA2 is no race drone, so that is totally acceptable.

Sure, on the Quest you need to activate a developer account/setting. Then you need to sideload an app called AirScreen with SideQuest (or something similar). Start AirScreen on the Quest, it shows up in the Oculus TV app, then cast your phone to AirScreen, voila!

Thanks! I got it the Quest/AirPlay to work. There is a bit of lag, and a bit of choppiness but definitely usable. At the very least, it'll work great for a 2nd person to see what's going on. Also, for those who are looking at getting VR, the Oculus is soon releasing a Quest 2 with improved specs.

There is even a cheaper and much simpler workaround which has no latency because you don't need to cast to another device. Just use your mobile phone and put it into a HMD called "Moviemask" (99USD) - at first it looks similar to all those Cardboard knockoffs, but they have a totally different approach by not using split screens for each eye. They use a special single lens instead. I am using it with a Sony Xperia mobile which has a 4k display and the picture quality is stunning! While I have never used any of the dji goggles, I believe the quality is miles better using Moviemask. In order to navigate/use the app while having the phone attached to your face, I am using a Goliton bluetooth device for less than 10 bucks, velcroed to my RC. The only downside is the fact that you cannot (yet) control the gimbal with your head. That may be possible in the future when dji eventually releases the SDK for theair Fly app.

If you already have an Oculus Quest VR headset (highly recommended, that's the future for sure!) you can also cast your phone footage to it (using a sideloaded app). But you have to deal with a bit of a latency, which should not be much of an issue unless you want to race your MA2 through some obstacles in sports mode.

I fly my P3A almost exclusively using Litchi in FPV with VR goggles. Talk about a game changing experience. I know I can't use Litchi with the MA2 but is there any other way to use my VR goggles and smartphone to fly FPV?

Of course, here it is. But keep in
mind that it only works with Android. I have used only my iPhone lately since the FCC hack doesn’t work with Android (anymore).

VR Box type goggles won't work until dji releases the SDK for the fly app and some developers make a third party app which supports VR split screen. But until then I have decided to go with a similar type of goggles but which have a different approach. They just use one single lense which provides 4X the resolution of a mobile VR headset. The clarity and sharpness of the screen is really awesome (on an iphone 7) and way better than dji goggles. The only downside is that you cannot control the gimbal with your head movements. Plus you cannot really navigate the screen unless you use a separate bluetooth device with an Android phone. I am using only iPhone lately because of the FCC hack, but that bluetooth device doesn't work with ios. I simply open the zipper at the bottom and use my fingers if really needed.

I cannot recommend that MovieMask/MagiMask highly enough for that fpv purpose with MA2. It costs 99 USD which admittedly is too much for what it is, but it is way cheaper than those 500 USD dji goggles, plus for MA2 to work you need a 500 USD Smart Controller in addtion! And then you can only view the footage, no gimbal control or in-goggles navigation etc.... One thing I have to warn you about MovieMask, it takes like forever to be delivered - mine arrived 4 weeks after the order, I complained and got a 50% refund, which is not bad at all ;-)

Yes , but I am going to give that Magic Mask a try > Looks like the website is the only place and its shipping from NORWAY , ok than so that explains the 4 weeks during the covid time.

No, they are actually shipping from Hongkong! They invented that thing in Norway but it’s being manufactured in China. Anyway, if you don’t get it within 2 weeks, complain and ask for a refund ;-)

Yes, that is a PITA! you already have invested in a dji goggle for like 500 bucks, and in order to use it with your brandnew MA2 you have to invest another 600 bucks or so to buy the SC and then you can not even control the gimbal with your head movements? No thank you, dji! That MovieMask does the same for 99 bucks with way superior image quality and resolution!

Since DJI released the SDK, Litchi (beta for Android) now works with the Mavic Air 2 and supports VR goggle mode. I tried it out last night (putting my Samsung a71 inside a cheap VR goggle I bought at Walmart) and it seemed to work well, at least while inside my apartment. It will be a bit before I get the chance to fly outdoors with this setup though.

You can either use an USB-C to USB-A OTG adapter (I have one from Anker) and use your iphone Lightning cable or you go with a dedicated USB-C to Lightning cable - I have one from UGREEN. Both options work flawlessly.
