I know this might sound like a stupid question but drone flying is all new to me as of this past weekend. I am considering getting a Wi-Fi only mini iPad to replace my iPhone. If I fly away from any Wi-Fi connectivity to the iPad away from my home and the mini IPad is connected to the controller I would still be getting full operability of the app because of the connectivity to the controller to drone Wi-Fi connection. Is this correct? The reason I ask is that on the weekend I was flying within connectivity to my home Wi-Fi and if that would fail I would then be connected to my mobile operator, hence my question if I use the mini Ipad outside of Wi-Fi connectivity does this cause an issue?

WI-FI used to download maps etc, no Wi-Fi makes no difference to how the quad operates, the quad is connected to your iPad with a cable

.

If you get a wifi only ipad, it will not have GPS in the device so you wont be able to set RTH to ME. (unless you buy a bluetooth gps or similar). I dont know if you think you would ever need this function. (I've never used it.)

Good point, modes like dynamic home point in Active Track won’t work. It’s a shame that Apple didn’t include GPS in their Wi-Fi only units yet most Android tablets do.

You can buy a cellular ipad to get the GPS and never connect it to an account. The GPS still works. However, ipads typically only cost $10 per month on your cell plan.

If you want to see the map, you can cache it in DJI GO before heading out to fly like this.

No, in Go4, Dynamic HP uses the position of the AC. In Litchi Dynamic HP is the controller (if it has gps).

After you share the connection of your smartphone (in my case a pixel 2, but any smartphone can tether, or share its connection) with the iPad, restart the software (DJI 4) and you will see the options again
