Where'd you get the spec on MM using wifi? DJI says 4km range for the MM, hard to believe that's possible with wifi.

Although it’s been pointed out that the Mavic Mini uses wifi not OcuSync for it’s remote control signal, it should be remembered that the smart controller is equipped with both wi-fi frequencies, thus maybe making it theoretically possible, maybe with a firmware update to control the Mavic Mini..

Remember the SC is an Android tablet and M2 remote in one, and it's the remote side that limits you to M2, as SC/M2 uses Occusync 2.
You could fly say a Tello if you side-load a Tello app, since you'd only be using the tablet part with virtual joystick on touch screen.

I’m pretty sure there is no technical reason why the mini can’t support 4K video and more advanced camera controls with a firmware update too... but DJI certainly has a business case for hampering the hardware in a way that creates more differentiation on their product line.

No different to how Canon work their camera lineout. Except Canon are experts in software crippling good hardware.

There may well be technical reasons the mini wont do 4k. The bus speed appears to be 40mbps. it simply may not have the bandwidth for it.
Lack of RAW and Camera controls yes are firmware restrictions though.

Many pocket 4k cameras from a couple of years ago would only record a few minutes of 4k before they would overheat. So it is not just a matter of software to charge 2k to 4k video.

For the Remote Controller, since the DJI Smart Controller and the Mavic Mini aircraft are using different hardware components and Image Transmission technology, it is not compatible with each other and the Mavic Mini only uses its dedicated Controller. Also, if you've purchased the Mavic Mini, it includes the Remote Controller even in the standard package.

The Air definitely has a fan, I doubt the same is true for the Mini, although I’’m not all that sure with the venting on the mini, weather the CPU would require it.

Sensor heat is likely as big an issue. Even on real cameras and DSLRs the big companies struggling to get full readout 4k at 30 yet alone 60fps without overheat issues.

As for the SC using different hardware, yes true *but* ultimately its still running software defined radio hardware that define the protocol. The frequencies and therefore actual RF hardware remain the same. It could be done but makes no sense to do so.

I saw an article where they point out The Osmo Pocket uses the same sized sensor, etc. It shoots 4K 60 100mbs.

Is overheating an issue there to? I mean, maybe it is... but the Osmo would just shut down, not fall from the sky.

I’m still not completely over the idea that this is a way to differentiate the Mini, just enough, that folks are willing to pay more for the Air, the Pro, etc.
