Has anyone tried the sun shade? My thought was that it would make the touch screen difficult to access.

@cweam it would really help if you tell us which drone and RC you have ,otherwise you are only going to get humorous replies to your thread, there are many many different types of hoods for all different devices

The DJI Mavic Pro sun shade works on the MM controller, just slots in over the antennas, this gives better access to the screen and control sticks than those sun shades that hook onto the device.

Anyone actually used one?

Just tried to find reviews and came across this on wish. Bit expensive for them, and I'm in no way endorsing it but loving the length! Proper periscope style!!!

I use the DJI sun shade on the MM controller with my Ipad Mini 4.
The periscope sun shades block out more sunlight, but are a bit unwieldy and ugly, also sometimes it's more difficult to get access to the screen from the cut out

You recommend then? Good points/bad points?

I have played with the a DIY "periscope" style sun hood made out of cardboard that flips up slightly that allows some access to the monitor. With the periscope hood your face goes right up to the hood completely blocking out the sun and any screen reflections and your pupils open up because of little ambient light and the display appears much brighter. I have some problems focusing my eyes, need new glasses, or eyes.

Try EyesWideOpen, see if that helps!

Now that I think about it, would totally lose VLOS using the periscope design. My eyes would never see it coming out of the dark!

Good points
  • provides some shade
  • easy access to screen and controls
  • easy to set up, folds flat and doesn't take up room
  • less obtrusive than bigger shades
  • flip top with magnet for easier viewing

Bad points
  • expensive
  • still lets light in and you have to angle it or yourself to get the best shade coverage
  • can't use antenna extenders

Hi cweam,
I bought an antireflex screen. It works perfect an I can see everyting on the screen, even if the sun shines on it!
below with antireflex

I have a Mavic mini. I have noticed some flare from the sun in one of my videos and wondered if the sun shade would be a good investment.

I think the MM sunshade/ lens hood are too shallow to be effective, but they do give some protection to the camera in the advent of a crash
