Mavic Pro Battery Mod

or cant the stock battery connecter handle the current?

deadleg - does that change?meaning depending on where the extra battery is being placed on the mavic?

I think a new thread of what battery works, connector's that are need, etc

cause if you are old like me by the time we get to the last page of this thread we forgot what we read already!...lol lol

I have to ask ( sorry if this was talked about before or asked) cant we make our own battery? meaning 3d print a mavic battery "shell" but bigger then take the battery control board out of a mavic battery install it in the 3d shell with the number of cells that is need to get good flight time?

doing it this way would be cleaner and easier? no need to add wires etc?

It's a nice thought, but you would need a different case for each different battery, and number of batteries. IMHO when you are testing out new ideas and designs it is more practical to just strap them on with velcro!

right but once the "right" combo is figure out.

as you know cant go to big cause of the weight :( but go to small don't get enough flight time BUT keep in mind you guys are testing this with the stock battery in place!!! doing that you have to include the weight of the stock battery!

not having the stock battery in place would let you have more weight = bigger battery :)

You have to include the stock battery in both capacity and weight calculations, so it doesn't make any difference. It is always like having one big battery.

It depends what's "right" for you. Some guys want to go for absolute max distance, but this means a heavy load and a lot of strain on the motors. I want something in between where I can get a good distance with less risk of shortening the life of the motors. That's why I need these tests - to try and find the right compromise. If we know what the power requirements are for different battery weights, we can estimate the duration and distance for each battery type and airspeed. I can only get this from the Mavic flight data files.

I was thinking in the sense of a 3d stock battery shell in place making it easier to test different batteries thus having the battery be in center better weight distribution? maybe that don't make that much difference?

It was petty ugly out today like flying in a cloud but I managed to get an over 46min hover with this battery. I wasn't planing on hovering but the compass error appeared so instead of chancing losing the bird i thought id keep it close by. MAN is that one of the most boring things you can do for 46min! If i had a knife i may have stabbed myself. I think it was actually a little longer maybe another min because i landed once and air data split it into 2 flights but yeah at least 46min hover. I know a 6500rpm hover is a lot different then a 7500rpm flight but still not too bad.
http://app.airdata.com/main?share=qaYUFn...When i would face away from home id have the compass error and towards home it would go away. I think because of it fighting the wind. I ordered some of this to see if i can do anything. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H4D8GZ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ...

So i put that stuff in my thing to try it out. o_O Hope i get some good weather to test it out. After i put it back together i was thinking i should have used at least two layers. I'm pretty lazy or id take it apart and do it again. But yeah I probably will though...Hey @lolo780 the house has been pretty quiet I think its been working for the paranormal stuff too!

I cant wait to hear back on you about that please post back

What's the reason for DJI to include a ''non DJI battery' setting in assistant 2? Are they allowing BMS bypass?

I believe It’s because assistant 2 is use for more than there consumer drones. it’s also used for some of there more custom drones use in DJI components(ecu’s).

Well, if I got it right the battery mods are basically piggyback solutions, where additional batteries are connected in parallel to the original MP battery with a similair discharge curve.

Has anyone tried to use one single bigger battery instead? What if we use the original battery circuitry but connect bigger capacity cells to it? I however guess the charge/discharge values are save within the circuitry, even if we put 6000mAh cells in it would only charge/discharge to the the original cells vaules, is this correct?
What if to genuine batterpacks are connected in parallel? anyone tested it?

What about connecting one big battery via XT60 while omitting a genuine pack completly? Would the MP power on?

that's what I am trying to say or ask before

Hi everyone !

After having read all this thread and the factory controller mod topic, here is the result of my work. I've done this mod on a platinum
I've done a 12 cell 3s4p battery with samsung inr18650-35e and the powerextra controller mod. Average real 140wh and 700g. I've used 4.2v bms in addition to the controller in order to be able to charge the battery through the factory charger. Hovering time between 45 and 50min. But the 10 last minutes, when cell tension is below 3.15v, the mavic hasn't a lot of power, not sure it could fight wind.

To make it properly work, you have to mod the firmware and change battery voltage and disable auto landing.

I've done 3 hovering flight for the moment. Will try a 15m/s circle flight to have the max distance when the sun will be back.

Here are some picture of the fabrication, i've taken big pictures of the powerextra controller.

Everything works very well. Sometimes i get current error but it fly like a charm and the motor doesn't get really hot. But i think the low voltage at the end of the flight prevent the motors to give full power. I'm looking to find some 3.8v or 3.85v 2C cells with the same energy density (average 240wh/kg measured with the samsung cells). Original cells are announced around 220wh/kg. I'm wondering if i shouldn't dissassembled two other aftermarket battery to make a 11.4v 120wh pack (at the same weight).

Second part of pictures. The controller is a powerextra mavic battery controller
