Mavic Pro Battery Mod

Yeah you'll see. Those batteries will not last long at all at those levels. I do not like 18650 cells and still don't. And I'm not eating anything right now.

Well you kind of are. I mean you told him to go away because it wouldn't work. It did. 52 minutes is conservative.

There are tons of information on 18650 Batteries and there performance in Quadcopters. Many people use them successfully. They're less cost, weight etc. seems like a win win to me.

The biggest downside is they are dangerous if they get shorted or overheated. I think for this forum 52 minutes is a record, and even more so when he breaks a record for distance!

plenty of clearance no problem with compass or GPS

I went ahead and bought the same battery. I'll be happy to share my results in this thread.

I never said that they wouldn't work I think I said that they run too hot for my liking.
I have to admit that 50 mins is making me feel somethinsomethin.. Still do not like the company that makes-em AND the attitude of them.
Charging over 40 bucks for shipping within Europe... that is criminal. Until they clear that issue I will not give them my money.

Cheers. I was thinking of buying:

2x Turnigy nano-tech 1300mah 3S 25~50C Lipo Pack for medium range

and

2x Multistar LiHV High Capacity 3000mAh 3S 10C Multi-Rotor Lipo Pack for long range.

All ok?

Presume 2x 1500 mah is better vs 1x 3000mah on the top for CoG and GPS performance etc? Is there also a benefit of 2 vs 1 for length of flight?

I know this is a little boring considering the 50min time of the 18650's but would still like to know if my order above is ok and the 2 vs 1 question if any one has a chance to answer that one.

Back on the Titan pack. Is 2C enough?

7.0Ah 11.1v 120W Endurance

2c is....could be...or not. I still would like to test them but with every minute I dislike the " brand" more. Their response and CS seems worse than DJI.
DJhoodrich has paved the way with his results, most importantly the batteries did not overheat (this time) so the next weeks will be interesting if the batteries can hold up. Otherwise interested if you can see a mavic burn/explode 12+ miles away.
Back to your issue: i like my batteries, and other things, on top. My machine likes it cause it does not know any better. Technically the mav will be more stable when the CoG is lowered like done with the side-packs. This is also nice when you've modded the mav " ear-ring" style. With the " brain" or " battery clip" mod, cable management-wise piggyback and single pack is less hassle.
2 vs 1 battery? Need to test this more.
Your choice for packs seems fine except id go for 1800 packs iso 1300.

does anyone have any proof of the lithim ion batteries getting so hot they explode, or cause issues?

I'm trying to translate this comment on the page linked above, "If this pack is discharged faster than 120 watts constant (less than 32 minutes) and is not actively cooled, it will overheat."

Does have the sucker strapped on the top and in the air qualify as "actively cooled"? What is "overheat" meaning in this case"? Too hot and explodes, or just stops working at its potential? Do i need to invent a liquid cooling system for the Mavic? Anyone have insight into this? I'm super dumb on these batteries.

btw, dirtybum is interested too, he would probably love to participate in this conversation.

I hear what you're saying I thought it would explode too so I tried a smaller battery 1st it got hot but did not explode the big battery did not get hot at all.But this was the 1st time I charge the battery to capacity cause I just got it in the mail I'm going to test it some more to see if it gets hot or explodes after several recharges. But for now it's working on my mavic and it's not overheating one more thing when I tested the smaller battery it was 95゚ outside so from the Sun beating on it it got really hot today when I tested the big battery it was only 70゚ outside so if the outside air temperature makes a difference I will have to see

All right I just did a flight with the small battery it did not overheat it did not get warm so it was because of the outside air temperature today it is nice and cool I got almost 30 minutes again with the small battery did not explode did not heat up
