Mavic pro controller issues

You say you use Go Fly app. That is not a DJI app. It is a third-party app you can get on Playstore.

You should download the Go4 app from the DJI website, it is not avalable on Google Play. Get it here:
DJI GO 4 - Download Center - DJI
It is listed as compatible with the Samsung S8 (I use it myself on an S7).
Thanks for the link I downloaded it and updated firmware it was suggesting and now have flight modes as you would expect. Only thing I've noticed is it's not as stable in the slight breeze as it was it was when I used third party app or since the firmware upgrade one or the other and I'm talking just take off hight it seems to drift now instead of holding it's position like it did and the breeze wasn't All that strong.. also which is not a big deal but with other app it had a land soft function I could hold joystick down and drone would come down fast but when it got to I think same height as take off height it would stop automatically while I'm still holding down stick then after a few seconds it would land soft.. I wasn't aware go4 didn't do the same and I smashed it into the ground pretty hard luckily no real damage just scratches

Am I allowed to post a pic of the app

You sure can.

Click the "attached files" link and load the picture / screen shot to your post.

Thanks for posting as it will help others to be aware of third party apps.

The Go4 / Mavic Pro should have the same function.

Most DJI drones have bottom sensors to see the landing area before touching down for a safe landing.

If you're in "SPORT" mode during flight, it may have disabled the bottom sensors that resulted in a rough landing. 🤔

There may be settings in the Go4 app that applies to the Mavic Pro that need tweaking about the sensors.

Thanks for the reply I have to have a bit more of a look at the go4 app but basically once I downloaded it and paired it I updated the firmware it was saying then I used the take off button and basically only went about 3 mtrs off ground for a couple minutes and in hover it seemed to drift from it's spot by a few feet and not return to that original hover spot I had to manually move it back because it was getting close to bushes. With the 3rd party go fly app it seemed to sit still or at least return to it spot if it drifted a little

I have read your various entries and you seem to be a very basic beginner, even if you have flown drones in the past a little bit of Good Old Fashion Advice is always helpful…

Your brother paid a lot of money for that Drone, put a phone number on it. If the drone gets lost or stuck in a tree and it finally comes down when you are not around, give the finders an opportunity to contact you so it can be returned.

Now, for the Fun Part, But do not let the excitement of the moment get the best of you. When you are going out to fly, do it slowly and deliberately. Get used to a set procedure and even practice it.

There are so many things I could write but these are the highlights that I feel need mentioning.

Plug in your phone/tablet into your controller; turn on the Controller and DJI Fly App (if it does not start on its own…). On the Drone, open the front legs, then open the back legs, then remove the Gimbal Cover.

The Gimbal is the most delicate item on the Drone and banging or bumping can damage it. I also fastened a short "Remove Before Flight" ribbon to the cover so it's more noticeable and I do not forget to remove it…

Turn on the drone and watch it come to "life." Watching the Gimbal go through its self-check is almost like watching a kitten or puppy opening its eyes for the first time…

Place the drone down (preferably on a Landing Pad) while it finishes its self-test (collecting satellites, etc…).

Check your battery status (Phone, Drone, and Controller), check the Signal Strength, by now the Controller should have reported it updated the Home Point.

Lift off, 4-5 feet (1-1/2 meters) or so, hover a bit, check the controls (move the drone a bit forward, back, left, right, yaw left and right). By now, your Controller will probably report again, Home point Updated.

If you go out in a rush and race thru your start up and take off before the drone has finished it prep, it may update its Home Point over that pond or that old tree you are flying over and in your excitement, you'll fly the drone long past it Low Battery point and when it engages Return to Home and lands in the pond or in a tree; it will be all on you…

Now go have fun, learn to fly the drone by sight before you try to fly it out a distance depending on the video feed, FPV.

I would also advise you to use YouTube and watch a lot of the Videos on flying and setting up the Drone. When it is too dark, too cold, or too wet, you can "fly it vicariously" through YouTube. Also watch some of the Blooper Drone Videos and learn how not to fly your "New Baby."

Below is the link to all of the downloads offered by DJI for the Mavic Pro, including the User Manual.

After you read the Manual, read it again, you will be surprised what you missed the first time and you will be better prepared for that first "scary moment…"
