Mini 2 Crash

Here in the US, only DJI themselves are authorized repair centers that won't void the warranty.

Repair cost from DJI might be less than refresh cost. Unless you selected express, they'll evaluate and let you know the cheapest option. Even with a repair, they may replace it with a refurbished.

Thanks man

I was doing so well, Should have followed Hans Solo’s advice to Luke. ‘Don’t get cocky kid’ ?

Best lessons from mistakes.

Star Wars quotes? I like this guy.

Sorry you crashed your drone. Hopefully it’ll be back to you soon.

You are right I am sure I will have another mishap.
If you do your early flying well away from trees, walls, buildings or other obstacles, there's no reason to expect you would crash.
When there's nothing to hit, it's very hard to get into trouble.

And wind shouldn't usually cause this kind of problem.
It takes a quite a strong wind to defeat the drone's horizontal position holding ability.

Welcome to the forum and I would get it fixed.

But I would try to fix myself. It depends on how much it would cost to get someone else to do it.
I don't speak Scottish but "wee" could turn into "Gee' if you fly it broken. I am sure that crack will affect the aerodynamics of the bird although I have no expertise in this whatsoever. Probably cost as much to fix it as to replace it - hopefully under Care Refresh.

If it still flies fine, fly it until it doesn't, and then use your Refresh. Refresh isn't free. There is a deductible with every claim. As long as you can still recover the aircraft when it stops flying properly, it won't matter how many times you crashed it prior to using Refresh. The main component to be concerned about is the fragile gimbal and camera. As long as they are both undamaged, carry on! After all, it is a flying camera. The drone is just a tripod in the sky for the camera. No matter how intact the drone is, if the gimbal and camera are not working properly, use your Refresh!

Thank you

I took the drone out yesterday just to see how it seemed. I really put it through it’s paces to be fair....sent up up to 400ft went through some tight spots in trees on a golf course and used all the modes and although I am new to this the drone didn’t feel any different to before. The camera and gimbal are absolutely fine which is lucky so I think I will continue with caution for a bit and see how we go.

I did manage to snap to top back into place so the body seems solid for now, appreciate some internal damage may have been sustained but like I said things seemed ok yesterday when I went for a post crash test flight.

Thank you to all who have offered advice on this thread ? It really is much appreciated to a novice dronesman.

Adding to what others have said, I suggest flying with the propeller guards on while you are learning. They have saved me and my drone more than once.
I bought some for flying inside after a fight with the curtains. The curtains won and we never had the fight again.

Bluntly, that was daft and bordering reckless!

400ft with a drone that badly damaged, you got away with it but ask yourself what would have happened if the arm pivot etc. gave way at 400ft.
Yes I understand testing but test at low altitudes and if you really want to thrash it hold it at full throttle, then at least you only endanger yourself.

With regards to gadgetguy's "fly it until it doesn't" comment,
a) that would be flying with a compromised air frame and negligent, like knowingly driving a car with a significant crack near a suspension strut mounting point.
b) I would bet DJI have the capability to tell, from say wear marks due to movement where movement should not occurr, maybe crack growth marks and Lord knows what else, that the drone had been flown whilst significantly damaged.
I wouldn't blame them, in such circumstances, for saying you have voided your warrranty and care refresh covers.
Should that happen would if Gadgetguy would care to indemnify the OP for following their advice?

Thank you for that. Like I said this is a new world to me so all/any info is greatly received. It is quite a large crack you are correct. I do have refresh so wouldn’t want to invalidate that. Thank you for your advice, the more I think about this the more I think I’ll use my refresh.

Sorry for the accident. Please keep us informed how everything goes??

Hi Flyininabluedream Welcome to Mavic Pilots.
Sorry to see you had a crash, hope my new flyer advice could prevent another,
Wide open space.
Slow & easy
Power-lines & trees are evil.
Don't expect RTH (Return To Home) to save you especially if you are under trees.
Don't forget to read the manual
Download Mini 2 manual HERE
Most of all have FUN
EXCELLENT advice and pointers?? And I might add to your list.....
go out alone so you can Really focus on what you’re doing. (I get distracted way too easily) ??FlyFun??

I feel Ashamed

Probably not the best thing to do, only defence is that I was in the middle of our closed golf course so nothing around us at all but still I appreciate that the height was not a good idea.

I will return the drone to DJI I think upon weighing up all the options and advice it is probably the best bet.

I don't want to be known as reckless so early in my journey.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Treat it as day in school, and learn from it.

Most of have done some flying that we would not duplicate because of what we’ve learned here. It’s a learning process for sure, and your decision to seek advice here was a good one. Many of us have learned things on the forum that we wouldn’t have considered otherwise. So learn as you go, and ‘pay it forward’ when you can.

As far as I am concerned, the forum worked just the way it is supposed to. Fly safe.
