No drone photos here. Drones not allowed in Zimbabwe. All images shot with Nikon 8, Nikkor 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 at 600 mm, f/8, Auto ISO, 1/1000 second

We spent several days in the famous Blue Forest in the Mana Pools National Park of Zimbabwe. The forest is famous for its wonderful light, causing a serene blue haze and soft colors in photos. It is also famous for their elephants, who are well known for reaching up to trees for seed pods, often standing on their hind legs. The blue haze comes from the Faidherbia albida or the Ana Tree (Apple-rind ThornTree)
The pods are an important source of food for the elephants particularly in the hot dry months.

The apple-ringed seed pods from the Faidherbia albida is one of the reasons why animals thrive on the floodplains in Mana Pools.

I shot hundreds of images and here are some. Oh thats interesting and a shame about no drones permitted in Zimbabwe since we were contemplating a trip to east africa next year.

The trees are very different from the more brush area of Huange National Park in 1978.
Very different from my time in then Rhodesia in 1978 long before cell phones and digital cameras. I think briefly got out the the car for this picture in Hwange National Park. There four of us brave guys traveling by car from Lesotho, north for 3 nights in Kruger National Park, then to Rhodesia, Victoria Falls, and Hwange National Park for elephants, before continuing through Botswana and back to Lesotho. Original pictures were slides converted to digital in 2016. One can achieve great pictures without drones.
