As a pro photographer and assessing many reviews it appears that the mechanics of the new Hasselblad camera should be able to provide the same if not better quality then the Phantom 4 Pro. Yet the current image quality problems are solely in firmware? If this is case, it would seem wise to wait while DJI and Hasselblad hash this out? Side question, did DJI make a significant investment in Hasselblad, perhaps even buying them? Appreciate any input.

Nobody knows at this point whether it's all firmware or results from decisions about the hardware.

DJI have purchased a majority share in Hasselblad a year and a half ago. So they can now slap that name on for marketing reasons regardless of whether what they made lives up to its legacy or not...

I'm waiting for my Mavic 2 Zoom. No way I'd buy a Pro at this time.

Does the Pro have bad image quality? Meaning for non professional photography but for some good quality photos?
I did decide to buy the 2 pro but, now i've read your post i'm in doubt...
I'm a videographer but mainly a photographer and my kind of work is photography and I do want to make some nice "professional-look" aerial photos.

Now what?

It has an edge in photo mode from the samples I've seen, slight in daylight and more in low light.

In video mode the Pro has the potential for better results but with the right modes and at the price of extensive post-processing that you basically have to do since footage out of the camera is meh.
The Zoom provides good out of camera quality a consumer would expect, but couldn't stand as much post processing.

Aka the pro is... a pro camera, and expects pro workflow.

Yes DJI bought a majority stake in Hasselblad.

There is some thought that the M2P has been deliberately made able to do less quality than it is capable of - 2 speculated reasons are:

1. Heat problems in the camera block, resulting in DJI sensor cropping and / or line skipping to mitigate overheating.
2. Camera has been 'hobbled' to some extent, to maintain separation between Phantom series and cheaper Mavics. Hence no 4K60 on M2P

Here's a brilliant thread all about that...

I currently don't own a MP2 but seriously considering upgrading my Inspire 1v1 for portability and image quality. MP2 out of the box is a better image then my current Inspire, but its not a fair comparison. In reviewing many images & videos, I think this video by Dan Ballard addresses my concerns with an unbiased view: Dji Mavic 2 Pro vs Phantom 4 Pro vs Inspire 2/X7! PRO REVIEW for landscape photography

I lost patience around 2/3 of the way through that video. If he has even the faintest clue what he is talking about then he hides it really well. It seemed almost totally devoid of anything other than repeated comments about "pushing the files hard". No objective comparisons at all.

Thanks everybody for your insight, especially Sonof40 providing the video resolution test. This does appear to be serious issue and perhaps cannot be resolved with firmware simply due to the physics of the camera and heat retention. As so many have said, its a great portable, stable drone, but at this early stage, image quality for an advertised 1" sensor is certainly in question for the Pro model.

Well, I've already decided that I will buy the Zoom.
According to what I have been reading the net the Pro needs a lot of editing after filming although it is known that in quality for photography is better thanks to the hasselblad lens. However, for movies and non-professional photography but with very, very good quality, above the previous Mavic Pro, Zoom is very good and most of the reviews I have read so confirm. So, Zoom is going to be my choice.
Of course, Zoom also needs some editing because according to what I read has a bluish cast that has to be corrected later in a video editing program. But, the price is better and what is left over can be used to buy a set of polarizers and even more.
