MY FIRST DEMO REEL!

All great comments and suggestions. I agree with almost all of them. It is about variety. If you want to get clients, you do have to show them you can do anything with the drone. So, think about shots that are very low to the ground and look like jib arm shots going up or down...slow "dolly-like" shots. etc. Try to get some drone video indoors, such as in a large factory or warehouse. Definitely more shots with people and animals. If you can make the viewer ask, "How did he do that shot?!", then they will be impressed enough to want to hire you. Yes, your nighttime shots were great. Keep shooting, adding to the demo reel, changing it, perfecting it...Good luck!

How close were you to the Hollywood and Ft Lauderdale airports controlled airspaces?

The only thing I would add to all the other, good comments, is you flew directly over a lot of people. My understanding is that can be risky and may be outside the regulations. If I'm wrong, I'll trust other more knowledgeable folks will correct me. Just one personal comment, I loved the shot where you rose from the front of the office building to reveal the guitar hotel in perfect position. Well done.
Good point to bring up about flying over people, I think this may be a good time to discuss. I only saw one scene that might have been questionable; when flying down the boardwalk not parallel to the walkway to the people walking but directly overhead. It might have been a minute or two or perhaps the entire distance....I wouldn't have done it but instead off to the side (like between the walkway and the beach). Still there are people over there but less.

I thought the rule said sustained flight over uninvolved crowds of people so if your drone is moving or the people are moving and they are not exactly a "crowd." Obviously you cannot fly at the location without going overhead of a single person. If you are going from point A to point B, is that an issue? And, I know there is no height component to the rules but for me, it's 75 feet or higher (if allowed) for less attention and more time to react.

Is this the rule for part 107 or recreational, or both?

Finally, I get it the rule is all about safety. However, I think we should avoid calling these shots risky. I saw police on patrol there and any one of them could cite you for that flight claiming it was reckless conduct by putting people at risk when we all know nothing could be further from the truth....and I'll leave it at that.

eta: In this post, I neglected to read a few of the previous posts some of which has already been mentioned. Not sure why I am not getting the notification while I am typing.

He said at some point it's 50 feet so that's very close. The ending is spectacular at night but you can see planes landing.

I believe the Hollywood water tower is in controlled airspace where approval to fly up to 200 is needed.

Really great for your first video. I rarely watch any video over two minutes and gag when someone puts up a first video 10 minutes long but, I watched yours end to end. In my opinion, Dale is an expert at this type of videos and you should reread all of his comments. It's personal preference but I think the video would have been better if you used maybe only one or two speed ramps.

Watch your safety issues. I would not have flown directly over the populated pools nor would I fly directly over the crowded boardwalk. Off to the side or over the water is the safer approach.

There was some discussion regarding videos for others. Remember, you must get a 107 license if you plan to sell or provide videos to others for their profit.

I assume you were not within restricted airspace but still a good idea to keep it low and keep on the lookout for low flying aircraft and helicopters when you're in the vicinity of airports.

Thanks for letting me share my comments.

Negative. You must get a part 107 if your flight is not intended for recreational purposes or not strictly for fun and in furtherance of a business. Has nothing to do with the videos or money or selling/providing.

Cris:
I viewed the film twice (something I rarely do). Overall, I would rate it as a great start in flying, and in editing. I had a lot of problems with the double speed ramping effect which you threw in so often. I would have preferred only a few, single speed ramps. You captured Hollywood Beach , the water tower, and the Guitar Hotel well. I, myself, spent an entire day trying to capture the Guitar Hotel. I even drove up on their rooftop to film, and nearly was arrested by the Miccosukee Police department, when three squad cars roared up the ramp and surrounded me! Luckily, I had predicted that I was not supposed to be there, filmed really fast, and had already stored my drone back in my car. I pleaded ignorance and they left me alone. I did get some nice footage from the Mc Donalds grassy area across the street. I can send you that video by private conversation.

I was shocked at how well you flew over the hotel and the pool areas. I was frightened to death to do that. (I drove 2 hours from Coral Gables to spend the day at the hotel filming). The night views were also stunning. (again, refer to my film I will be sending privately).

Telling a story, in my mind, consists of an initial broad and then a wide view- perhaps from the oceanside facing the city and beaches. Then move in for a mid view, and finally, the granular views such as the beach walk, the hotel, the water tower. I would definitely cut down on the speed ramping. It is not a special effect if you over use it.

Do you guys really go on private property (without permission) to launch/land/fly your drone for these shots? Is there not enough available public land or not legal from public property?

I thought it was great, better than i have done and i have been flying for a couple of years. Kept my attention the whole time.

It was ok, I didn't hate it. Maybe a bit heavy on the speed-ramping but some pretty nice scenes of the area.
I agree on the speed ramping cool effect and good in some places, but overkill using it in almost every shot. Many shots were good enough by themselves and didn't need any effects, just let the shot establish. Still probably better than most videos than I've done.

thank you for your comment.and yes i agree,i think it was a little too much on the speed ramping.im still editing it ,and adding more into it.

I liked your video very much. I thought your flying (course plotting?) and editing were refreshing and I got a few ideas from it for my movie-making. Thanks for sharing.
