Not sure how some backbencher on the Judiciary Committee would have access to such information, and frankly, I'd be surprised if Iran were to engage in such bold and risky behavior so far from home. But, if this were indeed true, then it would be easy for us to assign a Coast Guard vessel to constantly shadow the Iranian "mother ship" and determine if/when it launches drones. Other US assets could then track and destroy the drones over the open ocean if/when they cross our territorial limits. It wouldn't take an F-16. A chopper with a door removed might suffice, using appropriate tools and the same basic technique as is used to dart and tranquilize wildlife from the air, only decidedly more lethal. No risk to life or property on the ground, and no hostile drones snooping where they don't belong.

Further, any hostile entity engaged in such activity should be informed that the intentional and unauthorized launch of aerial vehicles which enter US airspace, whether armed or not, would be construed as an act of war.

Just notice the claims that the congressman in the video makes:

1 - Iran is sending drones to spy on the US
2 - Iran bought the drones from China
3 - If this was a US government thing, they would let the Americans know

Can any sane person believe these lies? I mean, come on. Iran just lost Syria, which was one of the pillars of its Axis of Resistance, they let Hezbollah be decapitated, they let their installations be bombed and senior officials be assassinated, just because they don't want problems with the US by taking military action against Israel.

On the other hand claims 1 to 3 above are a good way to motivate the American people to initiate a war against Iran.

Was also a little bit shocked to hear Iran come out of nowhere, I had my doubts on their ability to project so far. This is what happens when there are no answers, people will fill in the blanks with their own theories. Let's see if this is going to be resolved shortly and put to bed to let the news cycle churns or will this be allowed to continue to distract America and do any more damage than it has already done (i.e. so many congressmen and other people in government are really coming off as incompetent). I still believe whatever is happening has exposed the lack of "laws" and their enforcement when it comes to drone and going forward, people may begin to do something about (from what I heard at the hearings). Kinda like when you have a school incident and then all of a sudden, here comes the renewed request for funds and resources, and new laws, etc.

Maybe a little simple minded but if I was trying to use a drone to spy over sensitive places why in the world would I not mask out the lights on the drone? The lights are screaming "Here I am" to anyone looking up which isn't exactly stealthy.....

Whomever is doing this is trying to illicit a response so they can see how the government, the authorities, and the public respond. Perhaps there are other objects in the air appropriately masked such that this is the distraction while the "real" objects collect data. Either way, the smart, fastest, brightest minds on the planet should be able to figure this out quickly. Seems like it started out small and had to be ramped up into to get the intended effect until finally, it blew up and here we are.

What is tells me is we don't need to be stealth, we can do whatever we need to do right under your nose *and* scare the public at the same time so everyone can see your apparent weaknesses. On display is something we've known for a long time which is we don't have a lot of control over the airspace outside of using force meaning if it comes to that, we will dominate. If this is legit, they've had ample time to come forward so maybe it's closer to go time. But I've said it many times before, we gotta put some more value in deterring and capturing and prevention rather than just blowing up and destroying things.

Oh good grief, would someone please just shoot one down so we can find out and put this to bed.

Yes, that's certainly what most of us expect. Before the Chinese balloons were allowed to drift across the US gathering intel, I would have concluded there's no cause for concern as our authorities seem not to have any problem with these aircraft.

I'm no longer as trusting of those in power, because of past performance.

So apparently no one has a Nikon P1000 or a decent telephoto in NJ.

That happens in my area, and you'd see even the scratches on the rivets of those "ufos", which in this case seem to be just regular manned planes and copters misidentified by people and used by the media as clickbait.

How is it portrayed on Spanish media? I think you told us the police there on your island have aeroscopes and track drone flights all the time. It seems the FBI can’t get them to work in New Jersey.

Probably assessing the risk of exposure greater if a collision occurs and the downed drone is recovered. Not to mention how much more negative attention it might get.

On the news right now: Apparently a dozen of these were following a Coast Guard ship along the coast last night.

Pentagon now assures there is no Iranian mothership out in the Atlantic. But there is such a thing as a drone mothership. China unveiled one recently.

Can't tell, It's been like 10 years since I had TV connected to an antenna at home, but seems it would be the kind of side news to keep the spectator engaged.

Aeroscope only works with DJI drones, but In this case visual identification would be quite easy with any telephoto, with the Nikon P1000 for example, you can clearly see planes at even at 10.000m.

I usually record low flying copters and planes that fly by my house as a kind of "spinoff hobby" of droning, and you can clearly identify absolutely everything without any problem.

The thing here is that if you say "hey, they are just regular planes and copters, look at this footage" then the clickbait dies, and they stop earning money from advertisement.

Agree 100%. My DSLR has an optical zoom equivalent to 90x... and at a push, a digital zoom that quadruples that, which means I can get crystal clear shots of craters and meteor gouges on the surface of the moon. Isn't it odd that the only stills and footage on display look as though they've been taken by an epileptic with an old 2mp Vivitar point-and-click?

I live quite close to a high level nuclear fuel waste site. While flying close to the boundary of the site my drone was met by a larger drone (at the time I was flying an older yuneec typhoon) It seemed to observe my drone and then flew back towards the storage facility. This happened at least five years ago so I can only imagine that most nuclear facilities and military bases now have drones flying 24/7 over their bases of operations.

We have seen, on this forum information of industrial facilities that have electronic devices to jam drones and render them powerless to prevent them from flying over....that can't be done with these things?
