New Mavic Pilot From Maryland

Well, after much study (youTube, forums, etc) I bit the bullet. It arrives tomorrow. I was a R/C heli pilot back in the"old days" and I am absolutely amazed how far the technology has progressed. I hope some of those probably now forgotten skills will still apply. I've been into photography for some time so this will add a new hopefully "fun" dimension. I decided to gamble with an android purchase also when I saw this post yesterday. I still have an iPhone 5s and waiting for the new 8 so I was looking for a relatively inexpensive solution.

Congratulations on the Mavic! Where about in Maryland? I'm originally from the eastern shore, now in DE. You're gonna find that you don't really need any skill to fly Mavic, just common sense. It's a great machine.

I live in Laurel. Apparently next to a NFZ so I'll be looking for a place to practice near home.

I live in Laurel. Apparently next to a NFZ so I'll be looking for a place to practice near home.

I'm in Northern Virginia and like you, I am right on the edge of the Washington, DC NFZ, as in get arrested if you fly here kind of NFZ. If you haven't already, download the FAA's B4UFly app. It paints the NFZs on a map for you. I lived briefly in Laurel a long time ago. Welcome to the forum!
