There is no doubt that the Apple phones work very well with the DJI drones. But when I first got the Mavic Pro and was flying about 2 miles away I received a phone call and momentarily lost the connection using my Apple iPhone 6s. This was within just a few days of getting the Mavic Pro. I forgot to disable the phone. Regardless, whenever I get the urge to fly the iPhone may not be fully charged and even if it is the screen is too small so I started looking for an inexpensive dedicated large-screen phone used only for flying that had no phone connection, apps, and anything to interfere with flying.

Ideally, looking at the list of Mavic compatible phones, you want to go with Apple or Samsung. But spending $500 - $800 for a dedicated drone phone is out of the question. So I looked at the Chinese phones on Tomtop, Banggood, Gearbest and other Chinese product web sites coming across all kinds of phones with names I never heard of. I took a risk and settled on the 5.7" Leagoo M8 Pro for $62.00 and it wasn't bad for the price. But it didn't have the horsepower to stay with the video and occasionally the viewing video would freeze. The video recording on the Mavic was fine but the phone video transmitted from the drone occasionally was jerky. And the experience was the same when using my DJI Phantom 3 Advanced.

I read a review on one of the Chinese sites that the very same manufacturer Leagoo was the first to come out with a 10 core processor phone - the MTK Helio Core X-20 chipset clocked at 2.0 GHZ together with 4GB of Ram. The review raved at how well it played video games. With that kind of horsepower I took a chance and purchased the Leagoo T10, 5.7 inch 1920 x 1080 Super FHD display and WOW - it works flawlessly. The video is nice and smooth and not jerky, the screen is much larger and brighter than the iPhone, and the phone is thinner and easily fits into the Mavic Controller. The only issue is I needed to buy a type C Mavic Controller Cable so I had to order one as opposed to using the USB type C cable that came with the phone (but that did work just fine). I prefer not to have any wires hanging down and the direct connection like that for Apple and Android phones will make it easier to hold the controller without any wires coming out the side of the phone. Edited note: Realized much later that The Mavic Pro comes with an RC Type C Connector cable for the controller - just didn't notice it.

Originally the Leagoo T10 was about $250 on most internet sites when it first came out. Later Gearbest had the lowest price selling it for $179 but that was still too much for my pocket book. But sure enough, in time, the price dropped again at Gearbest and I was able to pick it up for $134, a doable price for me.

So now I have a great large 5.7 inch viewing and crystal clear screen phone that will always be charged with no interruptions from annoying phone calls when flying as I prefer not to have any interfering phone service or incoming ads & messages on the Smartphone.

You should be in sales. 8)
Thanks for that - maybe i should. Spending $200 for both phones was a bit much but it's a real plus having a workable, dedicated phone, and not spending an arm and a leg as you would for the big name brands. And to my knowledge no one has tried this phone with the Mavic Pro as it's not on the compatibility list. So for the price of just the Leagoo T10, $134, considering the resulting performance, it is certainly a bargain compared to the name brands. And with a name like Leagoo how can you go wrong?

We'll I just ordered the T10 today. My Mavic arrives tomorrow. I have to hope the my iPhone 5S will suffice for now.

Yup, that sounds SO much like a "sponsored" spam post... Nobody making a honest review makes so much effort to spew out all the "key specs" they don't even understand.
Well, I'm sorry if it does but I have to tell you it's not. See my posts on YouTube under Phoebe Snow. If you search "Record High Water on Lake Ontario.........." you'll come across a ton of my Mavic Pro posts from upstate New York near Canada. Our major concern has been the damaging high water on Lake Ontario and that is where I do most of my flying. I'm just a simply DJI drone user trying to get a better phone and I did. But if I sound like a salesman I'll take that as a complement because this phone works so much better and faster than my Apple iphone 6s that I may get a second one and can the Apple.

Lastly, a friend of mine is a technical specialist at DJI in California and suggested an android phone configuration that may work with no guarantees on any Chinese model. So I jumped in, did my homework and what configuration would read video faster from the drone to the controller, read the various total configurations of all of those crazy named Chinese phones, tried one that partially worked but lacked the horsepower, but eventually picked out one that stood out with 10 cores and it worked. So believe what you want - what a jerk! Is this how you as a "well known member" greet all new users of the forum? Maybe you want my name, address and phone to verify I don't live in China working for Leagoo evaluating those "key facts" that you think I don't understand.? I'll say it again - what a jerk.

Here's is one and all my posts mostly taken 2-4 miles from my location over Lake Ontario's eastern shore near Canada.

and more here...........

Or, instead of all that investigating you did & taking the chance on that china phone not working, (if it screws up do you have to return it to China?)You could have searched this site for Android tablets. - short drive to Canada computers & for 65-90 bucks( Can). bought the 7" tablet that seems to work flaulessly for everyone who owns it. Acer iconia one with MedTek processor.
You have to admit your review of that phone does sound like a plant, see the sterling reviews on certain Amazon products, mostly by employees!

I don't have to admit anything - I merely posted my experience and final outcome illustrating how I got there. If it was too long - or too technical - sorry. If it appears as though I don't understand key facts - well my homework and research got me to where I wanted to be for only $134. As to the Chinese phone not working where do you think all the electronic devices today are manufactured including the DJI drones that work exceptionally well?

As to driving to Canada you apparently you are not familiar with Canadian pricing compared to USA pricing. Canadians all come down across the border to the states to Syracuse, NY - Destiny USA Mall - to shop. They even have bus trips scheduled daily. And I tried many Android Tablets including the very expensive Samsung Galaxy S2 and the same thing happened with the freezing. Andorid seems to have more DJI issues than Apple so the Android configuration was the key. And my friend at DJI agreed. I also tried two other tablets by Asus and two by Chinese makers Cube and Teclast. But the tablets in my mind were just to big and cumbersome plus their configuration just didn't have the horsepower. So I tried a 7" inch phone and that was too big in my mind as well. So my search centered on a 6 inch phone and the Leagoo at 5.7 inches was close enough to what I considered the ideal for my use. However, I did almost try an Xiaomi Smartphone, a name many may recognize, but fortunately got it right with the T10.

Ten cores certainly sounds impressive but that's all it's really to do - sound impressive. The problem is mobile multi-core processors are different to their AMD and Intel cousins, for the latter the cores are all the same type but for mobile processors where power efficiency is the utmost importance, they're not. For the X20, out of those impressive sounding ten cores only two are actually high performance Cortex A72 cores, the other eight are made up of one quad of low performance Cortex A53 cores and another quad of lower clocked Cortex A53 cores. The performance of this chipset comes from those two A72 cores which give it an edge over rival products like the Snapdragon 650 which only has eight A53 cores and no higher performance cores. The Snapdragon 820 even with just its two high power and two low power cores, is much higher performance than the X20.

Also manufacturers use the same terms for very different chipsets - the current top end flagship chipsets are octo-core using four very high performance cores and four low performance cores with the idea that performance intensive tasks run on the power hungry cores but background and non-intensive items can run on the more power efficient low performance cores. However there are many chipsets out there that are sold as octo-core with eight low performance cores and no high performance ones.

On the desktop there is sometimes a worthwhile trade off in having a large number of lower performance cores against a small number of high performance cores if your task is heavily multi-threaded but with mobile devices, they simply don't split themselves well enough to benefit from a high core count. The iPad Mini 4 which is one of the favoured devices for the Mavic is just a dual core.

Also, DJI Go is a bit of a strange application and tends to be inconsistent in what hardware it works well with. It works best on my lowest performance device which is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 based device and until DJI removed specific handset recommendations, many of them were this vintage of Snapdragon or similar.

It's good you're happy with the device you've chosen but it is important to understand the hardware you're choosing.

I did read about the MTK6797m Deca Core. What encouraged me to go with it is the capacity it had to move graphics (i.e. games). Some of reviews highlighted and demonstrated how well it played some of the harder phone games. Since I've historically built my own gaming computers trying to stay withe most current and advanced graphic cards I sensed that if it could process graphics well it had the potential to process video streaming in at a rapid pace in sport mode. And I was right as my tests were in sport mode.

Where the Leagoo M8 Pro had a quad core, it seemed that an octa core or deca core would be an improvement. However, some of the octa cores also got bad reviews. I hear what you are saying about the make up of the cores. In addition, the T10 was 2.0 Ghz as opposed to only 1.3 Ghz with the M8 which just didn't cut it. All things considered, regardless of the make up, it works and works very well. And I've read forums where some of the very expensive name brand android phones that you think should work well - didn't. Lastly, my understanding is that DJI leans more to the Apple phones and always has. But spending as much as you do on a bundled Mavic Pro, other accessories, I had to be prudent and perhaps risky chancing a realtively unknown Chinese Smartphone. It was truly a crapshoot and I lucked out. But I did have some inside DJI technical recommendations to guide me with the potential phone configuration. And he got it right as well.

Below are photos comparing the iPhone 6 to the Leagoo T10. Also one photo of the Samsun Galaxy S2 which didn't work well for rme and was a little too big for my entrance to Mavic portability.

The beauty of the Mavic is portability and when you add an 8 inch tablet it lessens the portability. The iphone and T10 easily fit in the Mavic case outer pouch but where would you put an 8" tablet? Just something else to carry. And to me the controller with an 8 inch tablet just wasn't a good fit and for me not as easy to hold, handle and operate the drone.

It was $134 when I ordered this morning. Wow, I got under the wire.
You lucked out - congrats. I had been checking the three major sites - Tomtop, Banggood and Gearbest for a number of months when I noticed it went on sale just recently. And Gearbest appears to be the "Newegg" of Chinese products just about always having the lowest price.

Edited Note: They've lowered the price again from $214 to $134 (08-28-2017).

Looks like a good fit. Does it have GPS? How about HDMI out? How bright is the display in Nits at full brightness? I have a Nexus 7 which works well. It is brighter than an iphone but lacks HDMI output.
Edit: Did a little research. It does have GPS but no HDMI out. Benchmarks look good, so should have low lag.

Going dedicated seems to be the right thing for me - and you apparently. Great!

I looked at the Umi Emax but because it was 1.7 Ghz with 2Gb RAM (and the Leagoo M8 Pro I was using was 1.3 Ghz and 2Gb RAM), I passed on it. I have the Cube iWorks 8 - it's a nice little tablet and I paid only about $64 for it. I like having a choice of using two operating systems with Chinese tablets - Windows and Android.

I also purchased the Cube i9, a surface Pro clone with the and same configuration, for about a third of the price of the Surface Pro. It is a great Tablet/Keyboard and works exceptionally well with that 12 inch screen. Viewing my Mavic Videos on it is terrific. Also got the Pimax Virtually Reality Set for a fraction of the price of Occulus Rift. I should try to match it to the Mavic or Phantom but haven't had the time to do that. All of these acquired from Gearbest as they had the lowest price. The Cube i9 was my first Gearbest purchase and it arrived in 4 days - a record. Most everything else takes weeks.

I should mention that I still keep the Leagoo M8 Pro as a backup as it does work despite some occasional freezing. The kids have two Phantom 3 Standards and their iphones always run out since they use them so much daily so it still comes in handy when you want to fly without pre-planning to do so. The battery on it is incredible and it just never seems to wear down as fast as the iPhone.

It just so happens i have a China trip this month. Maybe I'll look for one.

There are plenty 6" Android China-phones with powerful spec for around $100-$120 on the market. They all will work well as a "display" for the Mavic. The task is quite simple, nothing special.

If the task is so simple perhaps you could share with us JUST ONE that you have tried that has proven to work with DJI equipment. Up until this post I wasn't aware of a single one in this price range that has worked and most of the time this Leagoo T10 phone sells for $225+. I tried some android phones (Xiaomi, Oukitel, Lenovo & Huawei with a similar configuration) that didn't work. I've looked for other posts for DJI compatible phones and couldn't find a single one in this range. Where there are many Chinese android phones in this lower price range I'm not aware of single other one that has a proven track record with DJI. And most reviews sites state a genuine issue with android phones in general and some feel that DJI leans toward the Apple phones with their drones. The list of current DJI compatible android phones posted are all very expensive costing several hundred dollars - way above the $134.

So if you have one - JUST ONE the task being so very simple and all - do us all a big favor and share it with us - don't just state it's an easy task when it truly isn't - simply name one. I know as I spent a lot of time and money evaluating many inexpensive Chinese android phones and they are not as DJI compatible as are most of the expensive Apple phones.
